-Good morning, boys and girls. I am very glad to see you. Today I suggest you to travel around London. Who can answer “What London is it?”

Of course it is capital of Great Britain. But before we start our travelling. Let’s repeat the words that will be necessary for us.

Look at the map. There you can see Great Britain which consists of 4 parts: Scotland on the north. England on the south. Wales is near England and the small part of the county is Northern Ireland is on the east. All the parts have theire capital. England – London. Wales – Cardiff , Scotland – Edinburgh . Northern Ireland – Belfast.

-Now let’s listen to some new facts about the most interesting places of London the capital of Great Britain. London is the capital city of England and of the United Kingdom. It is the most populous region, urban zone and metropolitan area in the United Kingdom. Standing on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia, its history going back to its founding by the Romans, who named it Londinium. London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its 1.12-square-mile (2.9 km²) mediaeval boundaries and in 2011 had a resident population of 7,375, making it the smallest city in England. Since at least the 19th century, the term London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. London is a leading global city, with strengths in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transport all contributing to its prominence.

T: I want to tell you about Tower Bridge.

Tower Bridge was opened in 1894. It takes it’s name from the Tower of London.The hydraulic mechanism can raise and iower the bridge in about one and a half minutes. The covered walkway between the two towers is opened to the public and offer a spectacular view of London .

The city’s greatest monument, St. Paul’s Cathedral was built by Sir Christopher Wren between 1675 and 1710 to replace the old Cathedral that was largery destroyed im the Great Fire of 1666. Christopher Wren is buried there. Among the many memorials to famous men within Cathedral are the tombs of Wellington , victor of Waterloo and Nelson , hero of Trafalgar.
