I.Начало урока. Организационный момент. Сообщение содержания и цели урока. Установка на работу. Good afternoon, pupils . Glad to see you. Who is on duty today? What date is it today? What day is it today? What’s the weather like today?

Today we are going to speak about children’s behaviour, your school relationship and problems at school with your classmates. So, the topic of our lesson is children’s behaviour and safety. You are going to read, translate and discuss the text about children’s problems at school, do some grammar exercises, listen to a small text on the point and speak on it. The aim of the lesson is to develop your reading skills, skills in finding and analyzing information from the text.

II.Речевая зарядка.

First we shall start with a kind of warming up and brush up the vocabulary on the topic. Open your books on page 102. Repeat after me, mind your pronunciation. (Pupils read the words). Now, so that you could remember the words better I’d like you to make up your own word combinations and ask your classmate to translate them from Russian into English. Ex:вежливый ученик-a polite pupil, etc. That’s enough. Thank you.

At the beginning of the lesson I’ve told you that the topic of our lesson is children’s behaviour. Look at the blackboard. Here is a saying by Goethe: “Behaviour is a mirror in which everyone shows his nature.” One of your home tasks was to prepare an explanation of the notion ”behaviour ”. Try to explain the phrase as you understand it using the vocabulary from the word box. P1: my behaviour is my attitude to other people. If I’m friendly, behave well, I’m not rude and people love me and consider a good boy/girl. P2: If I want to show that I’m a sociable person and want to get on well with my classmates I mustn’t tease them and argue with them. I don’t do anything wrong, I’m nice and my behaviour shows it. Etc.,

III. Работа над текстом. Предтекстовый этап.

Ok. Thank you. And now we proceed to the text. The aim of this part of the lesson is to develop your reading skills and first we shall start with some exercises: look at the blackboard. Here are some words from the text but they can be used in several meanings. Let’s translate them:

Dream [ ] 1) сон, сновидение; 2) мечта, грёза

Affect [ ] 1) действовать на кого-либо 2) притворяться, делать вид 3) любить, предпочитать

Bully [ ] 1) задира, забияка 2) первоклассный, великолепный.

Now read the sentences, translate and remember the difference in meaning:

  1. His dream has become true: he is a doctor.

  2. I sleep well, bad dreams never frighten me.

  3. His rude words affected me the old woman greatly.

  4. Don’t believe him: he isn’t ill, he just affects it.

  5. Teachers often punish him because he is a bully.

  6. It’s a bully book! You should read it!

And one more exercise to improve your command of the words. Read the sentences, render their meaning in other words;

  1. The children talked about everything; from fear of getting lost to bad dreams.

  2. It affected their everyday life.

  3. Twenty per cent of the bullies were girls.

Open your books, look through the unknown words, repeat them after me.

TO fight back a bully and be able to protect oneself you need to be strong and keep fit. Let’s do some exercises to warm up.


V.Восприятие иноязычной речи на слух. Предтекстовый этап.

Now I’d like you to listen to a small letter which a boy wrote to a school self-government.This exercise is aimed at training your listening skills. Before you listen to it look at the blackboard and repeat after me some words from the letter:

Dear members of the school self-government! I study in the 5th form. I’ve got a problem. Several days ago when I was leaving school I met a few teenagers 15 or 16 year old. At first I didn’t pay attention to them but then I noticed that they were following me on my way home. When I was walking across a dark park with no people in it, they came up to me and asked me to give them all my money. I was very frightened and didn’t know what to do but still I refused to obey. Then they took my school-bag, emptied it on the ground, took what they wanted and told me not to tell anyone about it otherwise they’d beat me. Now I’m afraid to go to school. I know that I must tell someone about my problem but I’m afraid. Please, help me and at least give me a piece of advice.

What do you think can be done to help the boy? I’ll divide you into several groups. Imagine you were teachers, parents .Speak on the point using the words and phrases on the sheets of paper I give you.

Example: parents: to stop bullying I’ll protect my child, I’ll ask him about his day at school, I must know my child’s friends and explain him that sometimes not all friends are real and that it’s important to know how to protect oneself and be strong enough to show that you can fight back if necessary.

Teachers: If we get to know about bullying at school, we ask parents to come to school, speak with them, tell them the truth about their child; sometimes we can invite a policeman, we organize special strict talks with a bully. And if he continues to misbehave, policemen and psychologists work with him.

Pupils: to avoid bullying we must observe discipline, not to allow anyone to be rude to small children, we must be fair, polite and know that teachers will get to know about bullying and punish. And one can also make friends with pupils from senior classes who will support and help if necessary.

VI. Now it’s time to brush up your grammar. Several lessons ago we spoke about short agreements. What do you know about the rule? One of your hometasks was to do an exercise in written form on this rule to train the grammar material. Lt’s check it. P. 128 ex.4

And one more task was to make up dialogues using short agreements. Thus you’ll train your speaking and grammar skills.

-I’ve got a bad mark in Math today!

- Oh. So have I! It’s because I haven’t done my homework.

- Neither have I! I don’t know what to do.

-Neither do I. How can I tell my mother about it? Let’s hide our record-books.

-Oh, no! My mother will understand everything.

-In general, you are right: so will mine. Then we have nothing to do but tell them the truth…

- Yes, you are right.

      • I want to go to a disco club but my mum doesn’t give me any money!

      • Really? Neither does mine! But most of or girls are going to come. What shall we do?
