Degrees of Comparison of Adjectives

The Positive Degree - показывает признак предмета или лица, не сравнивая его с другими предметами:

beautiful, old, warm, nice, new

Degrees of Comparison of Adjectives

The Comparative Degree- употребляется при сравнении двух предметов или лиц, показывает большую или меньшую степень признака одного из сравниваемых предметов или лиц:

kind- kinder,
tall- taller,
long- longer

Degrees of Comparison of Adjectives

The Superlative Degree - показывает самую большую или самую меньшую степень признака предмета среди нескольких сравниваемых предметов или лиц:

Large- the largest,

famous- the most famous,

bright- the brightest

Односложные прилагательные

Положительная степень

Сравнительная степень

long (длинный)

Превосходная степень

longer (длиннее)

nice (приятный)

nicer (приятнее)

the longest

(самый длинный)

fat (толстый)

the nicest

(самый приятный)

fatter (толще)

happy (счастливый)

happier

Conclusion

Add er and est to short adjectives of one or two syllable. E: short-shorter-the shortest
If a short adjective ends with consonant and y , change the y to i and add er and est . E: funny-funnier-the funniest

Exception - Исключения

bad - worse - the worst

far - further - the furthest

far - farther - the farthest

good - better - the best

many - more - the most

little - less - the least

old - elder / older - the eldest/oldest
