II .Theme of the lesson and planning it

Today we have new theme: To learn English ABC. To learn English sounds.

We’ll study how use them and do training exercises connected with our theme.

III. To introduce the new theme

  • A) English ABC. There are 26 letters in English ABC

  • B) There are 20 consonants and 6 vowels in English alphabet

Vowel sounds:[ei],[i:],[ai],[әu],[ju:],Yy [wai]

  • The letterEehas 2 rules of reading: 1) [i:]-in opened syllable, 2) [e] –in closed syllable

  • Letters Ii, Yy

a)Type 1 of the reading [ai]life, tie, my,type

b)Type 2of thereading [i]: in, it,six, gym

  • Aa has 2 rules of reading

1.Type 1 – [ei] plane,name

2. Type 2 [æ] – plan,man

  • Letter combinations ai,ay are read as [ei] - main [mein], May [mei]

Letter combination ea is readas [i:] - please [pli:z]

  • The letterOohas 2 rules of reading: 1) [әu]-in opened syllable, 2) [כ] –in closed syllable

  • The letterUuhas 2 rules of reading: 1) [јu:]-in opened syllable, 2) [Λ] –in closed syllable

  • Consonant sounds:[d],[t],[b],[p],[v],[n],[m],[l],[ef], [s], [z]

  • a)Ss is read [s] before consonants: test [test]

b)at the beginning of the word: sit, send

c) at the end of the word after the consonants: lists

d) at the combination ss: Bess

  • a) Ss is read as [z]at the end of the word after the consonants and vowels:pens [penz],bees [bi:z]

b) between two vowels : visit [vizit]

  • Zz is always read as[z]: size [saiz]

  • Letter Cc is read as [s] before the vowels e,i, y – nice [nais], city, cycle

Before other vowels and consonants is read as [k] cap, clean

  • Kk is always read as [k] – Kate, take.

letter combination ck is read as [k] –black

  • Letter Gg is read as [dз] before the vowels e,i,y – page, gin, gym

Before other vowels and consonants, at the end of the words is read as [g] – game, glad, bag

  • Letter Jj is always read as [dз]- Jane, jan

  • Letter Hh : sh – [∫], ch, tch – [t∫], th [ð] or [θ]
