Тип урока: Введение и активизация нового лексического материала.
Цель урока: совершенствование коммуникативной компетенции по теме «Резиденция премьер-министра Великобритании».
Задачи урока:
1) Образовательные:
- формирование и совершенствование иноязычной коммуникативной компетенции;
- развитие умений поискового и изучающего чтения; расширение словарного запаса;
- развитие умений монологической речи;
- развитие умений продуктивного письма.
2) Развивающие:
- развитие способности вступать в иноязычное общение; развитие способности логического изложения мыслей; развитие навыка языковой догадки; развитие психических функций обучающихся (память, мышление, внимание), эмоциональной сферы, прогнозирования, рефлексии.
3) Воспитательные:
- формирование познавательной активности; формирование потребности к сотрудничеству и взаимопомощи при работе в паре.
Формы работы: фронтальная, индивидуальная, парная.
Оборудование и наглядность: учебник «Spotlight - 9», аудиокурс к УМК «Spotlight - 9», компьютер, мультимедийный проектор, экран, мультимедийная презентация.
Ход урока
1. Introduction.
Teacher: Good afternoon, everyone! How are you? I hope that you all are fine today.
Have you travelled this year? Would you like to go to England someday? What places would you like to see there? Look at the screen to choose three of these most famous sights you would go to.
2. Checking the homework.
3. Identifying the topic of the lesson.
Teacher: Look at this picture and try to guess what this place is. You can find one prompt if you look at the front door of the building in the picture.
Teacher: Yes, this building is famous for its number – “Number 10” or 10 Downing Street.
So, today we are going to get to know this place better.
4. Reading.
Go to page 37. Let’s look through the text and be ready to answer three questions:
1) Where is it?
2) Who lives there?
3) What takes place there?
Teacher: Students, read the text again and match the missing phrases (A – G) to the gaps (1 – 6) in the right box. There is one extra phrase you don’t need.
Pupils read their answers to find out if they are right.
5. Listening.
Well, listen to the whole text to make sure that your sentences are correct. After listening, we will discuss it.
6. New lexical items.
Teacher: There are some new words and phrases in bold. What are their meanings?
Look at the slide on which you can use some other word combinations to explain the words in bold.
Words to write down:
1) formal gatherings – official functions;
2) when something first came into existence, first of all - originally;
3) not special or different, normal – ordinary;
4) co-workers – colleagues;
5) leading politicians who run a country – government ministers;
6) government employees – civil servants;
7) impressive, imposing – grand.

Use some of the new words/phrases to complete the sentences.
9. Speaking.
Pairwork. Tell your partner how the following are related to 10 Downing Street:
the Grand Staircase, the Cabinet Room, Margaret Thatcher, Sir Robert Walpole

Teacher: Pupils, tell the class four interesting facts you remember from the text.
11. Giving homework.
The hometask is to do some research about a famous house/building in Russia, then write a short article about it.
