Данная разработка представляет собой абсолютно подробный конспект урока с разнообразными тестами по теме "Америка" для учащихся 8 класса, занимающихся по УМК А.В.Афанасьевой. Урок по теме: «Америка» в 8 классе

Сухоплюева И. Н., учитель английского языка МБОУ «Черлакская гимназия»

Цель урока: повторение и закрепление лексико-грамматического материала по теме «Америка» и использование знаний в речевом общении.

Задачи:

1. Обобщить и систематизировать знания по теме.

  1. Продолжить развивать навыки устной речи в монологической и диалогической формах, развивать навыки аудирования и поискового чтения.

  2. Приобщить обучающихся к культуре страны изучаемого языка.

Тип урока: обобщение и систематизация знаний и способов деятельности.

Методы: словесный, наглядный, частично- поисковый.

Формы учебной деятельности: фронтальная, индивидуальная, парная.

Применяемые технологии: компетентностный подход по А.В. Хуторскому; личностно-ориентированное развивающее обучение (И.С. Якиманская), компьютерные технологии.

Оборудование: магнитофон с записью текста для аудирования, компьютер, проектор, экран.

Оформление: 1. Карта США.

2. Картинки с видами Вашингтона и Статуи Свободы в Нью-Йорке.

Ход урока

I. The beginning of the lesson.

T: Dear friends! Today we are having an unusual lesson, because too many guests have come to us. The topic of our lesson is “America.” We have spoken and read a lot of information about the USA and now we are having a test lesson. Your task today is to use all the information you know on the topic while speaking and doing different assignments. What do you think we are going to do today? (pupils formulate the tasks).

II. Warm-up.

T: Answer my questions, please!

  1. Who discovered America?

  2. In what year did he discover America?

  3. Who was the first president of the USA?

  4. What is the national symbol of the USA?

  5. Which is the United States’ capital?

  6. Where is the Statue of Liberty?

  7. What are the colours of the US flag?

  8. How many stars are there on the American Flag?

  9. Why are there 50 stars?

  10. How many stripes are there on the American Flag?

  11. Why are there 13 stripes?

  12. When do Americans celebrate Independence Day?

  13. Who is the president of the USA now?

  14. Where does the president of the USA live?

  15. Where is the tallest building (skyscraper) in the world?

  16. What is the national sport in America?

  17. Who was the first man on the moon?

III. Speaking.

a) T: Let’s speak about the American symbols.

T: First, let’s pronounсe some words! (the words are on the screen: “The stars and stripes”; the eagle; the statue of Liberty; an olive branch; France, 1884; the arrows; Liberty Island).

T: Now let’s listen to some pupils (several pupils tell the class about the American symbols).

b) T: Now speak about the sights of Washington, D.C. in pairs, please. Let’s pronounce their names (the pictures are on the screen: the National Gallery of Art, the Capitol, the White House, the Washington Monument, the NASA Museum, the subway, the Pentagon. Pupils speak about the sights in pairs).

1. The National Gallery of Art.

- What famous building is this?

- It is the National Gallery of Art. It was opened in 1941.

- What is the Gallery famous for?

- It has a lot of art collections by the great masters from the 14th to the 19thcenturies.

- It is one of the finest picture galleries in America, isn’t it?

- Yes, it is.

2. The Capitol.

- The Capitol is in the centre of the city, isn’t it?

- Yes, it is.

- What is on the top of the dome?

- Topping the dome is the 19th foot bronze statue of Freedom.

- What is the Capitol?

- The Capitol is the seat of Congress.

3. The White House.

- The White House is the place where the President of the USA lives and works, isn’t it?

- Yes, it is. It is the official residence of the USA presidents.

- Did George Washington live in that House?

- No, he didn’t. George Washington died in 1799 and the House was first occupied in 1800.

- How many rooms are there in the White House?

- There are 132 rooms there.

4. The Washington Monument.

- The Washington Monument is one of the city’s most impressive sights, isn’t it? -Yes, it is. It was built to the memory of the first President of the USA in 1888.

- Why is it called “The Pencil”?

- It is called “The Pencil”, because it is one of the tallest stone constructions in the world.

5. The NASA Museum.

- What famous building is this?

- It is the NASA Museum.

- What is it devoted to?

- It is devoted to the US achievements in the exploration of space.

6. The subway.

- They say the Metro system is very modern in Washington, isn’t it?

- Yes, it is. If you want to go by metro, you have to find the letter “M”.

- What about the fare in metro?

- The fare in metro is connected with the time of a day and the distance of

your travelling.

7. The Pentagon.

-There is the Pentagon in Washington, isn’t it?

-Yes, it is. It is a building and it was built between 1941-1943.

- What is it now?

- Now it is the US military centre. A lot of people work there.


IV. Listening.

T: Now you will listen to the text under the title “What Does the Average American Do?”

Your task is to listen to the text very attentively, try to understand everything and then to answer my questions.

What Does the Average American Do?”

The average American sleeps 7,5 hours a night.

The average American takes a shower every day.

The average American goes to the cinema once a month.

The average American watches TV four hours a day.

The average American goes to the dentist once a year.

The average American reads the newspaper every day.

The average American eats three hamburgers a week.

The average American drinks a cup and a half of coffee a day.

The average American lives in a house.

The average American eats at a fast food restaurant once a month.

The average American listens to the radio 2 hours a day.

The average American goes to bed before 12.00.

The average American wears pyjamas to bed.

T: Answer the questions, please.
