The theme of the lesson: "Adjectives. Сomparative adjectives."

The aims:

a) educational: to guide the students to an understanding of the comparison of adjectives

b) developing: to develop pupils’ skills of reading, tidy writing, listening and speaking, their mental abilities.

c) cultural: to bring up pupils to respect each other, to be tidy, polite, responsible.

The type of the lesson: mixed lesson

The kind of the lesson: mastering new material

Teaching methods: explaining, listening, reading, comparing, speaking.

Visual aid: an interactive board, cards.



The procedure of the lesson

I.Organization moment

a) Greeting

T: Good afternoon, boys and girls!

P: Good afternoon, teacher!

T: Let’s begin our English lesson.

b) Asking the date

T: What date is it today?

P: Today is the 23rd of January

T: Who is absent?

P: All are present.

What is the day of week today?

What season is it now?

Do you like winter?

Is it cold today?

Is it sunny today?

Is it snowy today?

Do you like the weather today?

Let’s turn to your mates and give a smile.


II. Key vocabulary. Saying the theme of the lesson

Teacher: The theme of our lesson I suggest you to guess as you look at the slide 1. Here you have some words. Your task is to match the word in English with their equivalent in Russian: big, cheap, expensive, fast, short, new, old, powerful, long, slow, small, tall, young.

Now look at these words and say what part are these words and what is the difference between them. Yes, you are right the theme of our lesson is the adjective and comparison of adjectives

At the end of the lesson you can:

  1. describe and compare things

  2. enlarge your vocabulary with more adjectives

  3. know the parts of computers

III. Presentation.

T: Open your books at page 72, ex. 2

  1. Look Read the two adverts. What are Ben and Lisa selling? Is Ben’s computer the same as Lisa’s?

  2. Now read the sentences. Which is Lisa’s computer? Which is Ben’s? Write near the sentences Ben or Lisa.

  1. Complete what Ben and Lisa say with the adjectives given in b. Then listen and check.



IV. Key grammar.

T: Adjectives have three degrees of comparison: positive, comparative and superlative. Today we’ll study comparative degree.

Look at the ex 3 p 73: complete the example and read the explanations.

P. We have one, two-syllable words and three or more-syllable words. If we have one syllable word we add –er, if more we put more before adjectives. Ps tell the rule in pairs.

 RULES:

 

 tall - taller                    small - smaller             

old - older                     fast - faster                    

slow - slower                 short - shorter

clever - cleverer   

    new - newer

 

 

             fat - fatter                      

                  thin - thinner 

                          big - bigger       

 

 

                 heavy - heavier             

                 happy - happier 

 

   expensive       -    more expensive

   beautiful         -    more beautiful

   difficult           -    more difficult 


V. Practice.

Teacher: Now let’s do some exercises to fix. Look at the board.

Ex 4a p 73: Divide given adjectives into two columns and write the comparative form of adjectives.


VI. Rest exercise. Song “If you are happy and you know it”


VII. Look at the pictures and make true comparative sentences.

REMEMBER:  The bus is faster than a bike

                     The city is more interesting than the mountains.

Ex 5 p 73: Listen to the rhythm drill, then join in. practice the /ә/ sound at the end of the words

IX. Key vocabulary Computers

T. As we talk about the computers today let’s find out some parts of them. Match the words with the pictures then listen and check.

X. Crossword

Now I suggest you to guess the crossword by putting adjectives into right order. Two group guess across and two – down, then you’ll check your partners.

XIII. The end of the lesson

Teacher: It’s just time to estimate your work. Put your stickers to the side of your like or dislike the lesson. The lesson is over. Good bye.
