Ход урока
I Организационный этап. (Мотивация к учебной деятельности.)
Good morning, children. How are you today? If you are ready, let’s begin our lesson.
II Формулирование темы урока ипостановка учебной проблемы.
(Вхождение в тему урока и создание условий для осознанного восприятия нового материала.)
At first, look at the screen.
-What do these pictures have in common? (All of them are different types of sports)
- And why do people do sports? (First of all, people do sports to stay healthy)
- Now think and say what the theme of our lesson is.
- You are right. We continue our work on the theme “Sport”. Today we’ll revise the material of our previous lessons, speak about sports in people’s lives and talk about its influence on people’s health.
III Активизация изученной лексики в устной речи
People have been doing different kinds of sports for centuries. Look at these pictures and name these sports. What do these sports have in common? What is the difference between them?
(Snowboarding and golf;
Water skiing and sailing;
Hockey and football;
Chess and the long jump;
Windsurfing and downhill skiing;
Ice skating and ice hockey)
Thousands years ago ancient Greeks said “A sound mind in a sound body”. Most people who go in for sports know from their own experience that this famous saying is true. And what is your attitude to sports in general? What sport do you do and why?

At the same time, a lot of people don’t do sports. They say that it is a waste of time and energy. Besides, it can be the cause of many injuries. Let’s read the text about Jane and find out what health problems were caused by these sports.
Rowing machine – backache
Jogging – (twisted ankle)
Hill walking – (a sore throat, coughing, sneezing, blisters)
Skiing – (swollen knees, broken leg)
Sailing – (vomiting)
V Физкультминутка (зрительнаягимнастика)
I think your eyes are tired a little bit so let’s do some exercises. Close your eyes and just relax. Well done! Open your eyes and look at the screen.
Now twinkle your eyes and let’s go on.

Despite the fact that health problems can be caused by some sports there are people, so called thrill-seekers or risk-takers, who can’t live without dangerous or extreme sports. What attracts people to these sports – adventure or danger? Why do some people do extreme sports?
(I think they want to be more confident and independent.
I think they want to show and prove their courage.
I think they want to get adrenaline rush.
I think they want to get sense of achievement.
I think they want to get a sense of freedom.
I think they want to experience new impressions.)
Watch a video and be ready to say if the sentences in your cards true or false.
Extreme sports are only popular in the mountains in the UK.
People who enjoy fast and dangerous sports, like white-water rafting, are called thrill seekers or adrenalin junkies.
In white-water rafting you have to try to stay afloat in the river.
Parkour is sometimes called free jumping.
The idea of parkour is to jump and climb over things like steps, railings and trees.
Rebecca is interested in parkour because it keeps her fit.
You need special clothes and shoes to do parkour classes.

I think you agree with me that all kinds of extreme sports are too risky and dangerous. What do you think about doing extreme sports?
(I think extreme sports are too risky.
I think extreme sports are too dangerous.
I think people who do extreme sports should be seriously trained.
Very often people who do extreme sports get injuries such as broken legs and arms and twisted ankles.)
It is very interesting to know what different people think of extreme sports.
Read the people’s opinions and match these opinions and the statements. One statement is extra
Statements
1. High-risk activities help to build up character.
2. Extreme sports are too dangerous for children.
3. Extreme sports can become a form of addiction.
4. Extreme sports are a means of self-expression.
5. People had better encourage extreme athletes.
6. Training and safety are key elements in extreme sports.
7. Extreme sports are not only risky but infectious for others.
A. Sports are a way for people to show what they love, whether it’s a passion for chess or a passion for jumping in motor cross. Life is something everyone should enjoy the way one sees it. People shouldn’t be told something is too dangerous when it’s what they love. Society becomes so focused on safety that they forget what makes us unique. Everyone has a dream, a love, an escape, and sports are a way people can show who they really are.
B. Extreme sports like base jumping and rock climbing have achieved mass audience. But they are not safe. I’d say extreme sports are too extreme for me. And what is even worse is being someone viewing the risky behavior on places like YouTube. Such videos can influence others to do similar things that may result in serious health problems. These videos are quickly spreading across the net, which I don’t like.
C. Instead of discouraging athletes involved in extreme sports, we should celebrate them for their differences and do what we can to support them as they climb higher and run faster. Well, with public support, these athletes can expand our boundaries. By limiting access to activities some people consider too dangerous, we might be inviting even greater risks in the form of crime and health problems.
D. I’m sure people get involved in extreme sports because of the adrenaline rush. The word “extreme” seems to me a part of this thrill. But the adrenaline rush can’t be achieved by doing the same action over and over again. Extreme athletes chase the adrenaline rush by continually increasing the challenge and danger presented by their chosen sports. They get used to risky behavior and can’t stop in search of new risks.
E. Being in any extreme sport isn’t a joke, when you’re doing it you should take it very seriously. You should wear protective equipment such as knee pads, elbow pads and a helmet. I’ve met a number of people who engage in extreme sports and they do take risks, but they’re usually well-prepared for such risks. Those who are serious about extreme sports are highly trained athletes who take care of their bodies and try to be very conscious.
F. I think extreme sports are too risky, especially for kids. It can be life-threatening at times because you never know what is going to happen. Teens like taking sports to an extreme because they like the thrill of it. They will never know when enough is enough. If teens would take the time to realize what these sports are doing to their body, they might rethink the whole “extreme” part. I feel kids shouldn’t be allowed to take up extreme sports at all.
