Цель урока: Изучить лексику по теме «Лондон», узнать факты из истории Великобритании.

Задачи урока: Активизация грамматических и лексических навыков по теме.

Развитие навыков аудирования.

Тренировка техники чтения вслух и про себя.

Развивать память, лексические и коммуникативные навыки, умение получать информацию из прослушанного и прочитанного текста.

Воспитать нормы вежливого поведения, формировать чувства общности интересов людей, говорящих на разных языках.

В ходе урока учащиеся обогатят свой словарный запас новыми лексическими единицами по теме «Лондон»; закрепят навык использования в речи глагольных времен. Будут совершенствовать навыки аудирования; получения информации из прослушанного и прочитанного текстов, расширят свой кругозор дополнительной информацией о столице Великобритании.

Good morning. The subject of our lesson is “Sights of London”.

I’d like to start our lesson with these words: “ Who doesn’t like London, doesn’t like life itself”. Let’s translate.

Comment on these words, please.

As you know London is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It has a lot of interesting historical and modern places to visit. But first let’s see what you know about London.

Let’s work in groups. On your tables you can see the sheets of paper. Please, write down as much facts or words connected with London as you know. For example, famous people, interesting places, historical events and so on.

On the bank of the Thames, not far from the Tower of London, you can see Westminster Palace, or the Houses of Parliament. It is the seat of the British government and it is one of the most beautiful buildings in London. In one of its towers there is famous Big Ben, the largest clock of England. It strikes every quarter of an hour.

Buckingham Palace is the Queen’s official London residence. Tourists always go to see the ceremony of changing the Guard there. Buckingham Palace is the most famous place in London. It is the home of the Queen. There are 600 rooms in it. It has an indoor swimming pool and a cinema.

London has many fine squares. Some of them are quiet, others are busy like Trafalgar Square.

Trafalgar Square is the central square of the city. To the right of the square there is the National Gallery which has a fine collection of European paintings. Trafalgar Square is the most popular place for people to meet. In the middle of the square there is Nelson's Column, which is 51 m high.

St Paul’s Cathedral is the biggest English church. Another famous church is Westminster Abbey where kings, queens, and many famous people are buried.

TOWER BRIDGE is the most beautiful bridge. Tower Bridge was opened in 1894, built in the Gothic style. The bascules are opened by electricity and will open to let the ships pass through. The Bridge is a symbol of London which attracts the tourists.

WESTMINSTER ABBEY. Westminster Abbey was founded in 1065. It is the traditional place of coronation for the English monarchs. Every British monarch has been crowned in the Abbey. Many are buried there. There are memorials to the famous British in the Abbey. You can see the Poets’ Corner there.

BIG BEN. Big Ben is the name of the tower and the clock. Big Ben is famous for the 13-ton bell. The bell weighs 13, 5 tons and the hammer – 8 tons. It is the voice of London. It tells the time since 1859. The Clock Tower is 318 feet (95 m 400sm). You must go up 374 steps to get to top.

The Tower of London is a very big castle. It is the oldest place in London. It was a castle, a palace, a zoo, a prison and a museum. The most famous things in the Tower of London are the Crown Jewels. They have the biggest diamond in the world — the "Star of Africa".
