Following up activities.

1. Focus on the pictures and ask students which words they know in English. Many are Likely to be familiar to them, and others may be similar to words in their own Language.

Play the recording. Students listen and repeat.

Ask students to find all the words that are in the plural form. Emphasize that the following are always plural: jeans, trousers, shorts, (sun)glasses – they are one garment but with two legs or two lenses. Contrast these with socks, shoes, trainers, gloves, etc., which are separate items. We can talk about a sock or one shoe, but we can’t say a trouser. You may want to bring in the use of a pair of for all these plural words

2. Read out the introduction to the listening. Explain that Exeter City and Bristol Rovers are English Football clubs and that red white and black are Exeter City’s team colours.

Ask students what they can see in the pictures. Teach or elicit the new words stadium and queue. Pay particular attention to the pronunciation of queue /kju:/.

Read out the question and ask students to listen for the answer. Play the recording.

Choose students to read the questions and explain or elicit the meaning of carry.


1. Set a time limit of three minutes. Students read the words and look around for examples of the items in the classroom.

Play the recording. Students listen and repeat.





















2. Play the recording again, twice if necessary. Students listen and then writer answer to the questions, in full sentences.

Draw attention to the difference in tense between the first two questions and the last two, and ask why they are different. Establish that 1 and 2 are asking about what Lisa is wearing at the moment while, 4 and 5 are asking about her normal habits. (Note that the difference between the two tenses is given more focus in the Module 5 review.)

3. Read out the examples.

Set a time limit of four minutes. Encourage students to use a mixture of present simple and present continuous verbs, as in the examples. Remind them of other frequency adverbs that may be useful (always, often, and usually).

4. Choose two students to read the example dialogue.

In pairs, students sit back to back and take it in tums to describe each other’s clothes.


3. Ask different students to read one or two of their sentences to the class.








4. Student could go to the back of the classroom, so that the class can’t see him, and ask: What am I wearing? Invite students to describe their clothes, and correct or confirm their statements as in the dialogue.
