Astana is the capital of Kazakhstan. It’s a very big and beautiful city. There are many big squares, high buildings, museums in Astana. There is a river in the city. Its name is the Ishym. There is the Khan Shatyr in Astana. Many people visit Astana every year.

Alibek: Astana is the capital of Kazakhstan. It’s on the Ishym River. It’s a very young capital. Less than 1 million people live there.

History

In 1830 it was a small village. It became a town in 1832. It had a different name at that time. It was Akmola.

Later the name was changed to Tselinograd. Astana got its present name in 1998. It means «capital» in Kazakh.

Astana now and then.

Astana is more beautiful now than it was before. Astana is more modern than it was before.

Astana is a more exciting place now than it was before because there are a lot of sights, museums and theatres, beautiful parks and squares there. When Astana became the capital, it became more popular than before.
