"Singles Awareness (or Appreciation) Day" (S.A.D.) is a humorous holiday, celebrated on February 15th. It serves as an alternative to Valentine's Day for people who are single.

On Singles Awareness Day, single people gather to celebrate their single status. Some want to remind romantic couples that they don't need to be in a relationship to celebrate life.

Singles' Day or Guanggun Jie (Chinese: 光棍节; pinyin: Guānggùn Jié; Wade–Giles: Kuang-kun chieh; literally: "bare sticks holiday") is a day of celebration for people who are single. The date is chosen for the connection between singles and the number '1'. This holiday became popular among young Chinese people. In recognition of the day, young singles organize parties and Karaoke to meet new friends or try their fortunes. It has become the largest online shopping day in the world.

Black Day (Korean: 블랙데이) is an unofficial holiday observed on April 14 each year. It is mostly observed in South Korea by singles.

The day is associated with Valentine's Day and White Day as a holiday on the 14th day of the month. On this day, people who did not receive gifts on the previous two days gather and eat jajangmyeon. This day is for single people.

In South Korea, Valentine's Day and White Day are both celebrated as occasions to give gifts to the opposite gender. Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 14, when females buy males gifts (usually chocolate). White Day is celebrated on March 14, when males reciprocate the gifts with their own. As both occasions fall on the 14th, other holidays were created by the government of South Korea for all other months to continue this trend.

On the day, singles who have not received presents on both days gather wearing black to 'commiserate' over black-colored food, especially jajangmyeon.

Jajangmyeon (자장면; 짜장면; jjajangmyeon), is a noodle dish topped with a thick sauce made of chunjang (a salty black soybean paste), diced pork and vegetables, and sometimes also seafood. Jajang (alternately spelled jjajang), the name of the sauce literally means "fried sauce." Myeon (also spelled myun) means "noodle".

Saint Valentine's Day, also known as Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine,^[1] is a holiday observed on February 14 each year. It is celebrated in many countries around the world, although it is not a holiday in most of them.

White Day (ホワイトデー Howaito Dē^?) is a day that is marked in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and China on March 14, one month after Valentine's Day.

In Japan, Valentine's Day is typically observed by girls and women presenting chocolate gifts (either store-bought or handmade), usually to boys or men, as an expression of love, courtesy, or social obligation. On White Day, the reverse happens: men who received a honmei-choco ('chocolate of love') or giri-choco ('courtesy chocolate') on Valentine's Day are expected to return the favor by giving gifts. Traditionally, popular White Day gifts are cookies, jewelry, white chocolate, and marshmallows.

There are several legend? about St. Valentine's Day. One of the legends says that Valentine was Christian priest who lived in the 3 century A.D. He was put into prison by roman authorities for his teachings and was beheaded on February 14. According to the legend he performed a miracle — he cured his jailer's daughter of her blindness. Before the execution he wrote her a letter signed «From Your Valentine». Another legend says that the same Valentine wrote to children and friends who loved him from the jail.

According to another legend, Valentine was an Italian bishop who lived at about the same time. He was thrown into prison because he secretly married couples, contrary to the laws of the Roman empire. The legend says that he was burnt at the stake.

February 14 was also a Roman holiday. On this day young men randomly chose the name of the girl to escort to the festival. The custom of choosing a sweetheart on this day became very popular in the medieval Europe. Later this custom spread to American colonies.
