is Cardiff,Northern Ireland the capital is Belfast. The UK lies on the British Isles. There are 5500 islands. The two main islands are Great Britain and Ireland. The UK is seperated from the continent by the English Channel and Straits of Dover. The area of the UK is 244100 square kilometres.The population of Great Britain is 61 million. London is the capital of the country. The largest cities are London, Manchester, Liverpool. The main rivers are the Thames and the Severn. The climate is mild. The head of the country is the Queen Elithabeth II

Kazakhstan

Kazkhstan is the largest state in

the Central Asia.Kazakhstan borders

on China, Russia, Turkmenstan,

Uzbekistan and Kirgizstan. The area of

Kazakhstan is 2753000 square kilometres.

Its population is about 17 million.

The population lives mostly in towns and

cities and large villages. The largest

cities are: Astana, Almaty, Karaganda,

Shymkent and Povladar. Astana is

the capital of the republic. Astana is

situated in the central part of the country.

There are 11000 rivers and streams,

more than 7000 lakes in Kazakhstan. They

are the Irtish, the Syrdarya, the Ili and

the Oral.The largest lakes are Balkhash,

Zaisan, Alakol, and Tengiz. N.Nazarbaev

is the president of the republic of

Kazakhstan. The climate of the country is

strongly continental.

We use “the” with the names of:

Oceans: the Atlantic ocean

the Pacific ocean

Rivers: the Thames, the Volga, the Ili,

Seas: the Black sea, the Aral sea

Mountains: the Alatau, the Altai, the Everest.

We don’t use “the” with the names of:

Coninents: Africa, Europe

Countries: Kazakhstan, Russia, England

Cities: London, Astana, Kyzylorda

Lakes: Balkhash, Zaisan

But : we use “the” if the name includes words like

“ republic”, “kingdom”, “states” the USA, the UK
