Class: 6

Time-60 minutes

Topic: CLIL(Food Technology)

Teaching aims:

- to check up the knowledge of words from the topic Food;

- to practise the use of them in different games and exercises.;

-to improve communicative skills of students;

- to improve students’ pronunciation;

-to develop listening, reading, writing skills through various activities;

-to develop creative abilities, logical thinking, imagination;

-to foster students to get interested in learning English;

-to teach to be respectful and tolerant to each other.


Outcomes:

. By the end of the lesson students will be able to:

- to use learned lexical material from topic Food in their speech,

- ask questions about food using Present Simple,

- make a poster about healthy food,

- understand the recording about food and find the missing information


Content :

-basic information about useful and unhealthy foods.


Cognition :

-to expand students' knowledge about useful and unhealthy foods;

-cultivate a positive attitude towards healthy food;

- make a presentation about their country;

-complete the map with the cities of the UK.



Communication :

-Present Simple;

- topic vocabulary;

-strategies for reading and understanding a text;

-strategies to improve classroom talk;

- strategies to make presentations

-describing parts of the UK.

- to help learners consolidate and develop their vocabulary by active using the words expressions given



Culture :

-to develop students` knowledge about countries of the UK, their capitals and other cities, famous landmarks;

video Interactive Whiteboard Software Right on 1, a projector, CLIL lesson worksheet: a text, vocabulary lists, Student’s book RightOn1, Express Publishing.

Procedure

1. Lead-in

The teacher tells the students that they are going to read one small but an interesting poem.( Task 1on worksheet)

Students predict (food).

2. Task 1:
Speaking

(5minutes)

The teacher elicits students’ knowledge about food asking questions. (Task 2on worksheet)


3. Task 3:

Speaking on the map

(5minutes)


The teacher tells the students that they are going to travel to an English-speaking country.He/she asks them to look at the map of the UK аnd tell what parts there are in the UK. (Task 3on worksheet)


4.Task 4:

Presentation of the new words

(5 minutes)

Students are given words and their definitions. The task is to match the words to their definitions.

Next students must find the right translation to following words and word combinations. (method"Confused logical chains").

5. Task 5:

Read

and do – Map

(10minutes)

Students must read the text in their textbooks p.22
Students are given an outline map of the United Kingdom)

and are asked to complete the map with cities of the UK (Task 5 on worksheet)

6. Task 6 :

A video about the UK (video has subtitles, so in a weaker group students can read and listen at the same time)

  • Students speak about foods/drinks they usually eat/drink from the Eatwell Guide.

8.Assessment:Scaffolding

Ask students to copy and finish the sentence: "The most important thing I learned at this lesson was ...."

Do you want to eat healthily but don’t know how? Well,now there’s the “Eatwell Guide”to help you.

Drinks

It is very important to drink 6 to 8 glasses of liquids every day to stay healthy.Water is always a good choice, but tea and juices are OK,too.

Bread,rice,potatoes,pasta and cereal

It is very important to eat lots of bread, rice,potatoes,pasta and cereal because it gives us the energy we need to get through the day.

Fruit and vegetables

Fruit and vegetables are very healthy because they’ve got lots of vitamins but not a lot of calories or fat.We need about 5 daily portions to help our bodies stay fit and healthy.

Beans,fish,meat and eggs

They give us the protein and vitamins we need for our body to grow big and strong.Beans are great because they have lots of protein and not a lot of fat.

Oils and spreads

They’ve got lots of fat and calories in them but they are good for you in small amounts.Olive and coconut butter are “healthy fats”,so it’s OK to have some during your day.

Milk,yoghurt,butter and cheese

These foods have got lots of calcium and protein.They help our bodies to grow strong bones and teeth.
