Good morning, dear friends. I’m glad to see you all here again in good health and good mood. Today we have many guests at our lesson, let’s greet them.

So, we’re going to continue our work on the topic “School and education” and today we are speaking about what school is better to study at.

First of all I’d like to see how you know the vocabulary and also we’ll check up your listening. Well, who is the bravest person in the class?

First fill in the blanks with the words you think should be there, then listen and check up.

Listen to some students’ opinions about what school is better to study at and answer the questions what schools Matt, Caroline and Andrea go to. Why do the children like their school?

Now look at the text and say what is special about each type of school, why the children like their schools and what reasons they give for each type of school.

In the text there is one new word – facilities. Let’s pronounce it correctly all together after me. Look at the variants of translation at the bottom of the page and say which of the variants better suits the text. Translate the sentence with this word.

Now I’d like to know your opinion about what kind of school is better: a boarding school, an ordinary one or learning at home. Look at ex.2 on p. 108. Here you see 2 frames with patterns. Use some of them to make your point of view. You have a minute to get ready.

And what do you like and don’t you like about your school? Have a look at ex.3 on p. 108. Remember to say about school process, facilities, after-school activities, teachers and friends. Don’t forget to give arguments and examples to support your ideas.

I see, you like your school. But sometimes children have to leave for another town with their parents or even to another country. And they have to change their school, of course. What happens then? Let’s read a story of such a boy and answer the questions about his first day at a new school.

And what were the original direct sentences? Imagine that you are the people who say them. What would you say? Write your sentences down on the blackboard.

You see, a new school means a new life. You have to get used to new teachers, new friends, new curriculum, new out-of-class activities, maybe new subjects, new demands – everything is new. And it is not easy, you know.

Imagine that it is you who has to change the school. Your parents told you that in a week you would go to another town. Would you like to learn about your new school before entering it? I’m sure you would. Remember, we were talking about three private schools in GB last time? What are they? Right, they are Eton, Harrow and Winchester. And your home task was to learn as much as possible about these schools: their staff, subjects studied, curriculum, facilities, activities, boarding life and so on. You had to find out all this information in the Internet. Now we are ready to see what you have learned. Each group has about 3 minutes.

Which of these schools would you prefer if you had to choose where to study. Don’t forget about explaining your choice, give 2-3 arguments.

Домашнее задание.

What would you say if you were offered a course of, say, English somewhere in Great Britain or the States? I have already shown you some leaflets offering such courses and we have learned that to study English somewhere in England, the United States or Australia you can choose a type of courses, for example football, or fashion, or classic or some others, how long you will stay there (2, 3 or 4 weeks), where you will live (in a family, at a boarding school or at a hotel), and, of course, when you are going to leave for this school. The fee is high but it’s worth.

But not only have such leaflets given us information about schools and learning courses. You know the searching system in the Internet that can help you to find out everything you want about the school you are interested in.

1. Imagine that you have an opportunity to study English in one of the schools we were speaking about at the lesson. Your task is using the Internet to find out if there are any summer language courses at these schools and if it is possible for you to get there.

2. Remember about our DID project. Go to the DID site and ask your American friends what they think about the school they study at, if they like it or not, and what they like most in it. Be ready to report their answers.
