Theme: The best of the best

The aims: to develop critical thinking through creative tasks, to develop communicative skills in speaking, reading and writing, students get the habits of critical thinking, students get the communicative habits in English.

Equipment: Interactive board

Good day dear teachers, pupils and participants of the intellectual competition “The best of the best”. You are welcome to our competition. Our competition consists of 6 rounds and we have two teams. Their names are “Clever pupils”, “Friends”. Before starting our competition let me introduce you our honorable juries:

Dear participants we wish you good luck. Let’s start.

A) According to the 1st round you should give the plurals of the given nouns below:

The first team –do the first line

A roof- roofs

A door- doors

A glass- glasses

A lady- ladies

A fox- foxes


The second team –the second one is yours!

A man- men

A child- children

A handkerchief- handkerchiefs

A tooth- teeth

An ox- oxen

A mouse- mice


B) Make nouns from adjectives:

Here are given some nouns. Your task is to give adjectives of them:

dangerous- ganger

windy- wind

foxy – fox

different- difference

rainy – rain

practical- practice

energetic-energy

beautiful- beauty

emotional- emotion


A) The 2nd round is pronouns. Give personal, object, subject, possessive and reflexive pronouns.

I- my - me- mine- myself

You – your- you- yours- yourself

He –his – him- his- himself

She- her –her – hers – herself

It – its- it- its – itself

We – our- us- ours- ourselves

You – your- you- yours- yourselves

They- their- them- theirs- themselves


B) Give the English translation of the given Kazakh pronoun

What colour is the shirt? I do not see its colour.

Is this her pen? No, it is not hers, it’s mine.

Give them to her.

They built the houses themselves.

A) Let’s pass over to the 3rd round. Here are given adjectives and adverbs. Your task is to give comparative and superlative forms.

beautiful- more beautiful- the most beautiful

easy- easier- the easiest

dangerous-more dangerous-the most dangerous

old- older- the oldest

hard- harder- the hardest

comfortable- more comfortable- the most comfortable

B) Describe the pictures with the adjectives short and tall.

A) The 4th round “Guess the tense”. There are given all forms of tenses. Your task is to guess the right tense

Present Simple V2 V+ed

Future Continuous will/ shall be+V4

Present Continuous to be+V4

Present Perfect have/ has+ V3

Future Perfect Continuous will/shall have been+V4

Present Perfect Continuous have/has been +V4

Past Continuous was/ were + V4

Future Simple will/ shall + V1

Future Perfect will/ shall have been+ V3

Past Perfect had + V3


B) Put the verbs in brackets into the Present Simple and the Present Continuous:

Ann skates- Ann is skating

C) The next task. Choose the right variant. Regular or irregular

D) The next task. These sentences are in Active Voice. Your task is to change into passive.


I water flowers- Flowers are watered by me.

Popov invented the radio- The radio was invented by Popov.

He will translate the text- The text will be translated by him.

I am reading The Path of Abai- The Path of Abai is being read by me.

We were planting roses- The roses were being planted by us.

She will be watching TV- TV will be watched by her.


The 5th round.

Why do you study English? Use the words below and answer this question.

To understand songs and films in English, etc.


The 6th round.

A) A tongue twister. Try to read without any mistakes and quickly.
