Lesson objectives

All learners will be able to:

  • Predict the theme of the lesson through set of pictures

  • Understand the main idea of video and deduce the meaning from the context with teacher’s support;

Most learners will be able to:

  • Understand with little support most specific information in extended talk;

  • Answer the questions with the limited support of extended text

  • Use no more than 3-4 phrases to express the opinion about the sport.

Some learners will be able to:

  • deduce meaning from context in extended talk on a wide range of general and curricular topics

  • Assist less able learners during class/group/pair discussions.

  • Use no more than 4-5 phrases to express the opinion on the topic.

Lead-in: W

Teacher greets learners and sets environmentally-friendly atmosphere within the classroom. Learners stand in a circle and start lesson with saying one good word. F.e: S1S2: “You are so beautiful today” etc.


Group – division:


Teacher puts the pictures of gold, silver and bronze medals in a box. Then, learners should take one from the box. After that, learners holding the coloured medals will form a group.


Pre-listening.

Learners look at the scanned photos of the sportsmen, types of sport and games, the scene from the video on the board and guess the topic.

(W. Critical thinking)


Teacher tells the learners that it was a short revision and today’s lesson is the continuation of the previous lesson.

Then teacher introduce with the learning and lesson objectives.

Pair discussion: The role of sport in my life (think-pair-share)

Learners discuss the questions on the active board; teacher may help less able learners. The main task here is to focus learners’ attention on storytelling.

1 What types of sport are mostly developed in our country? Explain your answer.

2 Why is sport so important in lives of people?

While listening: The art of storytelling (P, I)

  • While listening first time learners are asked comprehensive questions about the content of the task.

Differentiation by tasks.

  • They are: more able complete the sentences with no variant, less able match the sentences halves while watching the video for the second time.

  • Learners watch the final part of the video (from 01:20) and answer the questions in groups.

Strategy “No hands questions”

Learners aware that those required to give an answer, will be selected by the teacher. Teachers alert them to this as questions are asked.

Linked to ‘thinking time’.

Post listening (learners also differentiated. Equal level students work together)

At the beginning of the lesson teacher hand out the learners evaluation sheet for assessing. Learners should assess themselves by symbols. Teacher monitors their assessment and at the end of the lesson evaluate their assessment and give own FA.
