«Разработка урока по английскому языку "Проблемы окружающей среды"»
Teacher: Good morning, boys and girls! Good morning, our guests! We are glad to see you. Let’s start our lesson. What day is it today? What date is it? What is the weather like? Do you like it? – Thank you.
Well, today we’ll speak about “The Problems of the Environment. “The motto of our lesson is “One Planet – One Community.”
Change is needed. Our wonderful world is suffering under the strain of exploitation and waste. It is not enough to nod and agree that we have to adopt different attitudes and practices and a sustainable approach to life. It is time to do something about it and show our personal commitment to change. Single actions can be powerful as many small steps can lead a very long way.
Now, I’d like you to listen to a Native American Poem.
What is this poem about?
Pupil: The poem is about the damage we are doing to our planet. It is a warning of what might happen in the future.
T: Yes, you are right. Now, look at the pictures and choose 3 pictures which best match the poem.
P: A; C; D pictures.
T: That’s right. You learn about ecological problems not only at your English, Geography and Science. Some of you have joined our school club “Ноосфериум” and there you’ve studied some ecological problems of our region and I think you know a lot about Sustainable Development. I’d like you, girls, tell us about it.
P1, 2: Mankind has come into the 21-st century with a lot of problems. One of the main problems is the Problem of the Environment and Development. The United Nations held the Earth Summit on this problem in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.
It was one of the most important Global Summits ever held in our world. It agreed an overall Agenda for saving our planet in the 21-st century – called Agenda 21. One of the main issues was the Human Right for the Healthy Environment and the Sustainable Development. It is the development of mankind in the 21-st century. (Показать эмблему UNEP)
The first time the United Nations got to thinking seriously about the environment was in 1972. They held a conference in Stockholm attended by 70goverenments. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) was set up as a result. It is seen as the atmosphere, earth, rocks and rivers from the ravagers (опустошительные действие) of human activity. It monitors the state of the world's environment, and offers advice and policy options to governments. In 1984, it published the World Conservation Strategy, a fore - runner of Agenda21. Before the Rio Conference, the United Nations published a report, "Our Common Future".
It popularized the idea of "sustainable development " - development that meets the needs of today without destroying the environment so badly that future generations will be unable to meet their needs. Sustainable Development has become the central principle of all the UN's work
Р4:
T: Thank you, girls. Well, the Sustainable Development includes (табл. 1):
Social Prosperity
Ecological Safety
Economical Efficiency
Equal Human Rights.
But today we speak only about Ecological Safety. What problems of the environment do you know?
Ps: Acid rains, water pollution, land pollution, air pollution, litter.
T: What has caused these problems?
Ps: Pesticides, trash, destruction of rainforests.
T: All the things around us are parts of our environment. You’ve made computer projects.
Let’s watch them.
P: I am worried about water pollution. Water is our life. I love rain. Rain can give us clear drinking water. It also helps our plants to grow big and strong. Sometimes the rain water is not as clean as it could be.
P: “Cleaner Rain and Dirty Water.”
Chemicals called sulfates puff out of coal-burning factories around the world. When the sulfates mix with clouds, acid rain falls and harms lakes, rivers and plants- and the creatures that need them. Also, the wind blows the air around. So, the wind from one place can fall as acid rain many miles away. The good news is that many countries are working hard to end acid rain. Scientists are figuring out ways to make coal burn more cleanly. The amount of sulfates in the air has dropped. So less acid rain is falling. Nearly half of the lakes in North America are polluted. Often companies dump chemical wastes into water. But scientists are finding a solution to this problem too. Some rivers have been made much cleaner.
T: Thank you. But how can you help keep water clean?
P: One way is to store it in the ground or in the tank by not using too much. Try not to let water run any more than you have to.
T: Another kind of pollution is air pollution. When there are too many harmful things in the air, it is polluted. Let’s watch the next project.
P: “Air care and Cleaner cars.”
Worldwide, the stinky problem of pollution has grown. More and more factories, cars and trucks add their bad breath to the air. But the battle against air pollution is also growing. Many cities still have dirty air. So most states are making tougher laws against air pollution. And scientists are looking for ways to make factories and cars run cleaner. Cars are the world’s biggest polluters. But scientists are trying to invent cars that pollute less. Farmers in Illinois are trying a fuel in their tractors made from soybeans. And there are electric minivans being used in at least six U.S. cities.
T: And our last project is about land pollution and poisons in food.
P: “Poisons in Food.”
Farmers often spray chemicals on crops to protect them from pests. These chemicals are called pesticides. Scientists have found that pesticides often end up in our food. Pesticides can cause health problems- especially for kids. But here’s the good news- the U.S. government is helping farmers find ways to protect crops without using many pesticides.
T: Thank you, boys. Now I’m sure you know more about environment.
You should fill in the table (на белой доске). Look at it. (Показывать): These are indices of the Sustainable Development and the Healthy Environment. Read them.
Ps: Clean water, clean air, fertile soil, clean forests, diversity if plants and animals.
T: What problems appear in the Unsustainable Development?
Ps: Water pollution, air pollution, land pollution.
T: Will you review the solutions?
Ps: Saving water, cleaning water, strict fines to the factories. Planting trees, using electric cars and public transportation. Protecting crops without using pesticides.
T: That’s right. But we’ve got some spare squares. Now I give you some texts. After reading you’ll be able to fill in the table. You should work in pairs .If you are ready; you may come and do the task. (Упражнение выводится на интерактивную доску, проверка выполняется на доске).
At the end of our lesson, Ksenya, will you recite the poem and your translation?
Your marks will be excellent for your help. Thank you. Your home task is to study the table on page 69 and do ex.1, 2 p.69-70.
