Конспект урока по теме: “Ecological problems”

“What if this present were the world’s last night?”

(J. Donne. Holy Sonnets)

Задачи урока:

  1. Обучающая: формирование понятия «экологические проблемы», показать актуальность этих проблем во всем мире, учить учащихся монологическим высказываниям по вопросам защиты окружающей среды;

  2. Развивающая: развитие читательского интереса учащихся, развивать правильные интонации и произношение, повышать интерес к изучению английского языка, контролировать умения и навыки учащихся высказывать свое мнение по теме, развивать творческие способности;

  3. Воспитывающая: воспитывать чувство патриотизма, личностно-гражданскую активность, прививать школьникам любовь и уважение к природе.

Орг.момент: Hello boys and girls. Glad to meet you. I hope that you are in a good mood today, but you can evaluate your mood yourself. Tick a face according to your mood. You have pictures with 4 faces. They are "OK", "Bad", "Good", "So-So". Tick the card according to you mood.

  1. I want to begin our lesson with a story.

Once there lived an old man. He could answer any questions in the world. Everybody new about him. One day two boys said, “We are going to fool that old man. We’ll catch a bird, go to the old man and say, ‘we are holding something in our hands. Is it alive or dead? If he says,” Dead” we’ll let the bird fly, and if he says, “Alive”, we’ll kill it”

They caught a bird and they carried it to the old man and said



T. The topic of our lesson is environmental protection . The problem of our lesson is the global situation in ecology and what can we do with it. Today we are going to speak about all kind of pollutions, plants and animals which are in danger. So we’ll speak about environmental problems. Do you have any associations with the world “Environment”?

T. So let’s revise the words which can help you to discuss our topic.

Environment – окружающая среда

Danger - опасный

Protect- защищать

Pollute – загрязнять

Recycle- перерабатывать

Reduce – уменьшать

Reuse - снова использовать

Waste – отходы

Rubbish- бытовые отходы

Litter – мусор

Throw – бросать

Ecology – экология

Destroy - разрушать


T. So, look at the screen. You can form new words from these ones.

Environment (environmental)

Pollute (pollution)

Recycle (recycling, recyclable)

Destroy (destroyer)


T. Now answer some questions


  1. What is ecology?

Ecology is a science about nature and relations of men and the natural world.

  1. When the Man destroys the environment, how can we call the Man?

Man the destroyer.

  1. Can you name destructive activities of people and kinds of pollution?

Air pollution, water pollution, nuclear pollution, littering.

Choose the best way to define these

Ecology

1.Plants growing in some area;

2.Part of medicine that helps people to lead a healthy life;

3.Natural balance between plants, animals, people and their environment.


Environment

1.air, water and land in which people, animals and plants live;

2.An organization that wants to protect the natural world;

3.Something that we do to prevent air and water pollution.


Pollution

1.Dirty water, air and atmosphere;

2.Making water, air, atmosphere dirty and dangerous for

people and animals to live in;

3.People who make water, air and atmosphere dirty and dangerous.




T. There are a lot of ecological problems everywhere in the world and in the area where we live

The air is not very clean because there are many plants in Stavropol region which pollute the atmosphere. Rivers Kuma and Podkumok are polluted because the plants throw their wastes in them. The animals are in danger too. Name the main problems.

  • Water is polluted (stop throwing wastes)

  • Air is polluted (remove factories from cities)

  • Birds and animals die (stop hunting)

  • Forests are disappearing (plant trees and flowers)

  • Littering (recycle more).

  • Flowers are pulled out (don’t pick up flowers in the forests)

T. You can see some signs. Let’s write them down

A. Do not pick wild flowers.

B. Do not litter the ground with cans, paper and bottles.

C. Do not frighten animals.

D. Do not harm plants.

E. Feed birds and help them.
F Plant trees and flowers.

G. Recycle used materials such as metal, bottles and paper.

H. Clean rivers and springs.


T. We see that the future of our planet is in our hands and we can save the Earth. What should we do? Look at your sheets of paper and match two parts of the sentences.

I can help the environment.

If I don't leave glass and plastic bottles

I can help not to spoil the environment. 

If I don't draw on the trees

I can help the rivers.

If I don't wear a fur coat

I can help the forests.



Rest

Let’s have a rest. Close your eyes. Bow your head to the right, to the left, back, forward. Let’s relax a little.

Name three things which are always wet ( water, rain, snow, river, sea)

Name three things which are always hot ( sun, fire)

Name three things which are always cold ( ice-cream, ice, moon)

T. We see that our planet is in danger. How can you help your planet? Remember the three R's: reduce, reuse, and recycle.

T. Do you know why is it necessary to recycle litter? It lasts for a long time or forever.

T. In Great Britain people try to solve ecological problems. Listen to the record and say are they true or false?

What do you think: Are these statements about people in England true or false?

  1. People never forget to turn off lights, because electricity is expensive.

  2. Nobody wears fur coats, because it is not cold.

  3. People sort their rubbish, because they want to help the environment.

  4. People use pooper scoopers (совочки) and clean up after their dogs.

  5. Nobody drops litter, because they like their towns and cities clean.

  6. Nobody goes camping, because it's bad for the environment.

  7. There are special factories which recycle materials


  1. We never forget to turn off lights and water. Water, heating and electricity are expensive!

  2. Our winters aren't very cold, so nobody wears fur coats. If you wear a fur coat, sometimes people from Greenpeace spray your coat with paint. "We mustn't kill animals for clothes," they say.

  3. We sort our rubbish: there are special containers for paper, tins, food, white glass, brown glass and green glass. After that special factories recycle these materials and people reuse them.

  4. We clean up after our dogs with special pooper scoopers. If we don't — the fine is £50.

  5. We never drop litter in the street. If somebody sees you. you have to pay a fine.

  6. When we go camping, we never make campfires. We use camping stoves.

  7. A lot of people use public transport. They don't go by cars, because firstly, cars pollute the atmosphere and secondly, because it's very difficult and expensive to park a car in a big city.

T. Have you ever heard about Garbage Collection Day? This is a day when home owners should put bags with rubbish at the road side in front of their houses. It will be collected by a special truck.

T. What is Waste Collection Calendar? (It is a calendar which outlines the rules for garbage collection.)

T. You know there are a lot of organizations all over the world which protect nature. Can you name any of them? (Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, London Wildlife Trust)

T. What do they do? (They try to save endangered animals and plants.)

T. You know that some animals are at the edge of disappearing. Look at the screen and read their names

  • Philippine eagle

  • birdwing butterfly

International organizations got a lot of letter from all over the world. We have some such letters they are from animals which have some problems.

    1. “Once I was walking in the forest and cut my paw with a broken bottle which had been thrown away by careless people”.

    1. “My brother was killed before a hunting season and I want to live…”

    1. “My family died. Our forest was burnt down after people had left a fire there. What should I do?”

T. Do you know anything about the “Earth Day”?

It is on the twenty first of April. Earth Day is a special day around the world. The first Earth Day was held in the USA in April in 1970. Earth Day is the time when many people show that they care for our fragile planet.

T. You can see leaves on your desks write down how can you help to protect the Earth?

1. Ask your government to make laws to protect air, water and soil.

2. Develop international cooperation to solve ecological problems together.

3. Save water, gas, energy and other natural resources.

4. Keep your towns, cities and countryside clean.

5. Don’t waste water, gas, energy, natural resources.

6. Don’t poison the water, air and soil.

7. Don’t dump or pour industrial waste into rivers, lakes, seas and oceans.

8. Don’t turn the planet into a rubbish dump.

9.Don’t cut down trees.

10. Walk or use a bicycle instead of going by car.

11. Plant more trees.

12. Protect animals and wildlife.

13. Feed birds in winter and help them survive in the cold.

14.Save energy. Use less electricity and gas. Turn off the lights when you leave a room.

15. Have showers, not baths. Showers use less water.

5-4 you are sorry for animals but you don’t want to help them

3 and less you should be kinder and help our planet to survive.

Don’t forget to tick your mood and give it to me.

 And in conclusion, all of us should always remember the wise advice of a great English writer John Galsworthy who said: "If you don't think about the future you will not have it" Let everybody remember: we live only once and not a long life, we have one earth for all those who love it and who do not.
