The teacher shows the pictures of the signs denoting weather and asks a question: “What is the weather like today?” The learners give their ideas using the structure “It is rainy today” Words: windy, hot, rainy, sunny, warm, cloudy, foggy, cold, snowy. The teacher asks the learners to repeat the words aloud. Regrouping The teacher gives each learner a card with one of the three words relating weather. The learners take one card and joins one of the three groups according to the given word. While-listening. First listening. While listening the learners do task 1: Match the two halves of the sentence and write a – d next to the number 1 – 4. 1…….. The weather in the north is mostly a. rainy. 2…….. A learner: - listens to the recording - finds the right variant of the letter -matches the right number of sentence with the right letter Formative assessment: The teacher gives each group an answer sheet. All learners of the group do self- assessment. Second listening. While listening the learners do task 2: Write the word to fill in the gaps. 1. Welcome to the weather forecast. Now, let’s see what the weather is _______________ today. 2. In the north of the country it’s very windy and cold. There is a _______________ of some rain, too. 3. The temperature is around 10 _______________ centigrade. 4. In the east it’s rainy all day today, I’m afraid. There may be a thunderstorm in the afternoon. They should choose the appropriate word and fill in the gaps. Descriptors. A learner: -listens to the recording - fills in the gap with a suitable word Formative assessment. The teacher gives the answer sheet to the group, the group chooses one expert from the group and he checks the answers of all learners. Post-listening. Differentiation. Less able learners make up dialogues on the topic in pairs. More able learners make up their own weather forecast. The learners present their ready tasks to the class. Descriptors. A learner: makes up sentences using topical vocabulary makes up questions using topical vocabulary combines the sentences to make a text Formative assessment. The teacher gives a list of criteria for conducting group assessment. The criteria are as follows: A definite number of sentences. The usage of topical vocabulary. Correct grammar structures. Good intonation and pronunciation. Reflection The learners answer the questions What was difficult for you during your work? What new vocabulary have you learnt? What would you like to know?
