Pp: __________________________________________
7) Now you will work in groups.
Each group thinks of 4 questions to one of the paragraph. Your group (указатьнагруппу) think questions to the first paragraph, and - yours for the second. Then your will ask these questions to another group.
Well, it’s time to ask questions. Let’s begin.
About what genres have you known from the text?
8) Let’s have a guessing game. Listen to the beginnings of different kinds of stories and try to guess what story it is, and why you think so, write down the key words which help you to define the genre.
1. It was a dark and foggy night. We drove and drove. At midnight, just as we thought we had lost, we saw a light behind some trees. As we got nearer, we could see a house. It looked deserted. We knocked at the heavy, wooden door. It opened slowly. A tall man dressed in black stood there. “Good evening,” he said in a slow deep voice. “I’ve been expecting for you”.
2. We were traveling through deep space at the speed of light. Suddenly, the spaceship slowed down and immediately the system came into view a bright star with twenty or more planets. One of these would be our new home, five light years from our own galaxy.
3. One of my earliest memories is of my father running along the beach with our dog, Tess. I have been about three years old. I remember the dog jumping up on me and knocking me over into the water.
4. The man lay on the ground next to a white van. There was no doubt. He was dead. I quickly looked in the pockets of his jacket – some money, a handkerchief and a theatre ticket with a Chicago phone number written on it. Three murders in three weeks and the victims all killed in the same way.
5. Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, there lived a beautiful princess. She was an only child and her father and mother, king and queen, loved her very much. One day, an old woman came to the castle. When she saw the princess, she smiled and laughed in a strange and horrible way.
Answers:
1) horror story 2) science fiction 3) autobiography 4) detective story 5) fairy tale Do you agree? I think ….. why do you think differently?
9) Now when we have remembered the names of genres I‘d like to suggest you a game. You’ll work in groups. I’ll give your cards. They are divided into three groups, but they are mixed. The first group is the names of books, the second one is genres and the third group is writers. You should follow the example and make up sentences. Pay attention to the pronunciation of proper names. Let’ read them. Repeat after me. (прочитатьвслух). Well, please make up your sentences.
10) Let’s do exercise which may help us to make up our stories. Work in pairs. Read the following expressions and match the ending.
Раздатьпредложениянапарты.
11) Now, you’ll make up your own story. Using all what we have done on the lesson and the questions which I’ve handed out you as a plan make up your story “My favourite reading and genres”.
Заслушиваем рассказы.
12) The hometask is to think of cinquain on the topic ‘Reading’. The lesson is over. Thank you. Good-bye.

Many people like to read fiction - stories that writers make up in their imagination. Novels and short stories are fiction. Even though the characters and events in fiction are imaginary, a good writer can make us believe they are real. A novel is usually a long book. Its plot (main story) is packed with twists and turns, and it may have several subplots (smaller stories within the main story). A short story tells only one story and is shorter than a novel.
Fiction doesn’t have to describe the world we know. Many people read fiction to escape everyday life. Fiction can offer a substitute life, perhaps an adventure or a romance. Reading about other people’s struggles, hopes, and decisions can sometimes give us a better understanding of our own life. Some people like spooky tales. Others like to read science-fiction stories that imagine life on other planets or life in the future. Readers also enjoy unraveling the puzzles of mystery and spy fiction. Fantasy fiction describes magical or supernatural events. Historical fiction takes us back to the past. Fiction has something for everyone.
The stars of many fairy tales are supernatural beings called fairies. Fairy tales may have elves, goblins, gremlins or other unusual beings such as witches and talking animals.
Fairy tales generally take place in a far-off time and place. They typically begin, “Once upon a time.” In the land of fairy tales, magical happenings are everyday occurrences. Bad kings or queens, beautiful but ill-treated girls, and handsome princes are frequent characters in fairy tales. Fairy tales generally end happily. Goodness is rewarded, and evil is punished. The traditional closing line of a fairy tale is, “and they lived happily ever after”. Fairy tales have been popular with people all over the world from earliest times. As the stories were retold, the tellers added some details and left others
