I этап (урок географии в английской школе.)
Т: My name is Miss Bell. I am your new teacher of geography. It is time to begin our lesson. Today we will talk about Russia. Russia is very beautiful: it has woods and lakes, plains and mountains. Who wants to tell about geographical position of Russia?
P1: I’d like to tell you about it. Russia stretches over a vast expanse of eastern Europe and northern Asia. It is the world’s largest country. In the west Russia boarders on Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, and Poland through Kaliningrad province. In the south our country boarders on Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China, and North Korea.
T: You are right. What is Russia washed by?
P2: Russia is washed by twelve seas and three oceans. It controls the Baltic Sea in the west. The Black, Caspian and Azov Seas wash Russia in the south. The Arctic Ocean and seas such as the White, Barents, Kara, Laptev, and East-Siberian Seas are in the north. The Pacific Ocean the Bering, Okhotsk, and Japanese Seas wash Russia in the east.
T: Very good, thank you. There are many important rivers in Russia. What can you say about them?
P3: The most important rivers in the European part of Russia are the Don and Volga. The Volga River, which flows in the Caspian Sea, is of great historic, economic, and cultural importance to Russia. In the West Siberia the greatest rivers are the Ob and Yenisei. They flow along the most extensive lowland in the world. The Yenisei flows into the Kara Sea.
T: What is the deepest lake in the world?
P4: The Baikal is the deepest lake in the world.
T: All right. The following question will be about the population of Russia.
P5: The population of Russia is about 150 million people. 83 per cent of the population is Russians.
T: Well! What can you say about natural resources?
P6: Russia has the riches deposits of mineral resources in the world. It is one of the world’s biggest producers of coal, oil, and natural gas, as well as of iron ore, copper, zinc, lead, nickel, aluminum, and tin.
T: What do you know about political system of the Russian Federation?
P7: Russia is a Presidential Republic. It is headed by the President who is elected for a four-year term. The President is commander-in-chief of the armed forces, he makes treaties, and enforces laws, appoints the prime minister, cabinet members, and key judges.
T: Very good. What are Russia’s state symbols?
P8: Today the state Russian flag is three colored. It has three horizontal stripes: white, blue and red. The white stripe symbolizes the earth, the blue one stands for the sky, and the red one signifies liberty. It was the first state symbol to replace the former symbols in 1991. The hymn of Russia is created by Alexandrov and Mikhalkov. Now the national coat of arms is a two-headed eagle. It is the most ancient symbol of Russia.
T: All right. Do you know about the official language of the Russian Federation?
P9: Russian is the official. But there are many nations live in Russia and that’s why each nation speaks its own language.

John Brown: With pleasure! Moscow is the capital of Russia and it is one of the biggest cities in the world. Look at this picture, please.
Mike: When was it founded?
Helen Brown: It was mentioned in the chronicles in 1147 for the first time.
Ann: Is Moscow a port of five seas?
John Brown: Yes, it is. The Moscow-Volga Canal links Moscow with the Baltic, White, Caspian and black Seas and the Sea of Azov.
Miss Bell: Are there any parks in Moscow?
Mary: Yes, there are. There are many parks in Moscow. Muscovites like to visit them.
Jane: What was the first monument in Moscow?
Mary: The monument dedicated to Minin and Pozharsky was the first one. It is in the centre of Moscow.
Ann: Moscow has a metro, hasn’t it?
John Brown: Yes, it has. The Moscow Metro began its work on the 15th of May, 1935. There were 13 stations at that time. Now it has190 stations.
Mike: Have you seen the State Moscow University?
Helen Brown: Yes, we have. It’s one of the highest, buildings in Moscow. It is interesting to notice that it was founded in 1755 by the great scientist M. Lomonosov.
Miss Bell: I know that there is the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. What is it famous for?
John Brown: The Tretyakov Gallery is named after its founder who began to collect Russian painting in 1856. There we could see the pictures created by such painters as Serov, Repin, Ivanov, Levitan and others. It has about 3 millions of exhibits now. A lot of tourists visit this place every year.
Jane: It is very interesting. It will be beautiful there. But what is situated on the Spasskaya Tower?
Helen Brown: The Spasskaya Tower is one of the symbols of Moscow. It is the tallest part of the Kremlin; it has 67, 3 metres tall. It has the famous clock and its minute hand is 3, 28 metres long. The clock which we can see today was installed in the middle of the 19th century.
Ann: I read that this building was built in 1551-1561. What is the name of this building?
Mary: It’s St. Basil’s Cathedral. It was built after the victory over the Kazan Kingdom. The architects were Barma and Postnik. It has 9 beautiful painted cupolas.
Mike: Tell us, please, where the Russian tsars and emperors were crowned?
John Brown: It is Uspensky Cathedral. It is the largest building in a famous group of churches. It was built in 1479 and the Russian tsars and emperors were crowned there.
