Вступительное слово

Новые задачи современного языкового образования предполагают изменения в требованиях к уровню владения иностранным языком, определения новых подходов к отбору содержания и организации материала, использование адекватных методов и приёмов обучения, форм и видов контроля. Освоение иностранного языка происходит преимущественно через овладение учащимися стратегиями и приёмами, что обеспечивается соответствующими упражнениями и заданиями, направленными на формирование речевых умений и навыков.

Для поддержания интереса учащихся к иностранному языку на протяжении всего периода обучения большую роль играет введение на уроках элементов страноведения. Это содействует воспитанию учащихся в контексте диалога культур, знакомит с общими ценностями, служит опорой для поддержания познавательной мотивации, и формирует способности к общению на иностранном языке.

Использование страноведческого  материала   позволяет создать атмосферу языковой среды, адекватно организовать материал, что, в свою очередь, повышает уровень владения языком, способствует усвоению системы знаний о социальной действительности и культуре, обеспечивающих интеллектуальное развитие и идейно-политическое воспитание учащихся.

Пользуясь дополнительным материалом по страноведению, нестандартными формами проведения уроков, учитель повышает интерес к предмету способствует лучшему усвоению программного материала. А изучающий язык остается носителем своей собственной культуры, однако его фоновые знания обогащаются, приобретенные элементы культуры страны изучаемого языка; тем самым как личность он становится в какой то мере носителем мировой культуры и начинает лучше понимать и ценить собственную культуру. Готовясь к этим урокам, учащиеся не только овладевают языковым, страноведческим материалом, умениями ознакомительного, изучающего, поискового чтения, но развивают умение рассказывать об определенных фактах, событиях, учатся обмену мнениями, высказывают свое отношение к ним. Учащиеся учатся строить речевое и неречевое поведение с учетом особенностей культуры изучаемого языка при понимании единой системы этнических ценностей народов.

Разработанное учебное пособие предлагает материал для работы с темой «Англо-говорящие страны» в 5 – 6 классах. Представленная информация способствует углублению и расширению тем базовой программы, увеличению словарного запаса и знаний учащихся по предложенным темам.

Благодаря использованию пособия на уроках и дома ученики приобретут более полные знания о таких странах как Соединенное королевство Великобритании и Северной Ирландии, Соединенные Штаты Америки, Австралия и Канада. The United Kingdom


The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the official name of the British Kingdom. It is situated on the British Isles. The British Isles consist of two large islands Great Britain and Ireland, and about five thousand small islands. Now Great Britain is separated from the continent by the English Channel and the North Sea.

The UK is made up of four countries. They are England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Their capitals are London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast. The capital of the UK is London. Great Britain consists of England, Scotland and Wales and does not include Northern Ireland.

The UK is washed by the Atlantic Ocean in the north and the North Sea in the west. The two islands are separated by the Irish Sea.

The surface of the British Isles varies very much. The north of Scotland is mountainous. It is called Highlands. Ben Nevis in Scotland is the highest mountain (1343m). The south of Scotland has beautiful valleys and plains. It is called the Lowlands.

There are a lot of rivers in Great Britain, but they aren’t very long. The Thames is the deepest river. London stands on the Thames.

The climate of Great Britain is temperate and mild. The warm waters of the Gulf Stream influence the climate of the British Isles.

The UK is highly developed industrial country. It is the largest producer and exporter of machinery, electronic, textile, aircraft and navigation equipment. One of the chief industries of the country is shipbuilding.

The Queen is the Head of State. The Queen is a symbol of the country’s history and its traditions. The real power in the country belongs to the British Parliament and to the British Government.

The flag of the UK is known as the Union Jack. It is made up of three crosses: the cross of St. George (the patron saint of England), the cross of St. Andrew (the patron saint of Scotland) and the cross of St. Patrick (the patron saint of Ireland).

The USA


The United States of America is one of the greatest countries in the world.

It is situated on the North American continent and is washed by three oceans: the Pacific, the Atlantic and the Arctic.

The USA  borders only on two countries — Canada and Mexico.

This great country has a lot of mountains, rivers, lakes. The main mountains are the Appalachians and the Cordilleras. The longest rivers are the Mississippi and the Missouri.

The climate of the country is varied. In the southern part it is subtropical while the northern part has very cold weather in winter.

America has fifty states and one federal District of Columbia where the capital of the country is situated.

The capital of the USA is Washington, D.С.. It stands on the Potomac river in the eastern part of the country.

The main cities are located on the Pacific and Atlantic coasts. New-York is the largest city of the country. Other large cities are San-Francisco, Los-Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, Phoenix and Dallas.

The USA is a country of highly developed industry and agriculture. The main industrial centres are Chicago and Detroit, with their greatest automobile company “General Motors”. There are many farms with various agricultural products. Grain, fruit and vegetables are grown on numerous fields especially in the South.

The USA is a country with great holidays, customs and traditions. It is one of the most beautiful and interesting countries in the world.

Australia


Australia is the only country in the world that is also a continent. It is the sixth large country and the smallest continent.

Australian climate is dry and warm. It has summer when we have winter. January is the hottest month of the year. The sun shines in winter and in summer. Snow and ice are rare, only in the high mountains. There is not much rain there.

The fauna of Australia is very rich and different. Australia has a lot of animal and bird species. More than 80 per cent of plants, animals, reptiles and frogs are unique to Australia. Some of best-known animals are the kangaroo, koala, dingo and platypus.

Nearly twenty million people live in Australia. Most Australians are of British or Irish origin. People of Australia live mainly in the south-eastern part of the country. Canberra is the capital of Australia, but it's not the largest city in the country. The population of Canberra is about 300,000 people.

Australia has a lot of sights. The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system. The most famous building in the country is the Sydney Opera House. Its roof looks like sails. Kakadu National Park is the home of Australian crocodiles.

Canada


Canada is an independent federative state. It is one of the most developed countries. Canada consists of ten provinces and two territories.

It is situated on the North American continent. The country is washed by the Pacific Ocean in the west, by the Atlantic Ocean in the east and by the Arctic Ocean and its seas in the north. About 2 percent of the Canadian territory is covered by glacier ice.

The eastern parts of the country are mainly valleys and plains. The western territories are occupied by the Cordilleras.

The main Canadian islands are Newfoundland, Victorian Island, Baffin Island and others. There are a lot of rivers and lakes in Canada. The largest rivers are the Nelson, the Ottawa, the Mackenzie and the Yukon.

In size Canada is the second in the world after Russia. Its area is almost 10 million km2. The capital of Canada is Ottawa, which is situated on the bank of the Ottawa River. It is famous for its beautiful parks. It is also known as the city of bridges.

The most developed industries are timber, mining, chemical, meat and milk and food industries. Canada grows wheat, barley, flax, potatoes, vegetables and fruit. Fishing is also one of the prosperous industries.

Official languages of Canada are English and French. Canada is a founding member of the United Nations. It has been active in a number of major UN agencies.
