Sustainable development.

This report is for students of high school (9-11 grades) and their parents.

Nowadays we often hear the word combination «sustainable development». But many of us can’t understand the meaning of it. Let’s try to learn what it is. There are a lot of definitions of sustainable development, but most of them are difficult.

In common we can say that sustainable development is supporting the world we live on. The main idea here that we must act responsibly about products we consume in order to support people on our planet forever. In other words we should think about environment, nature and its resources, try to minimize harmful influence on it, which can cause negative consequences for future generations.

For example, when people build new districts they should think about green zone near it. To preserve the earth and its resources for future generations, people should try to use alternative ways of getting energy: solar, wind energy etc.

But the focus of sustainable development is far broader than just the environment. It's also about ensuring a strong, healthy and just society.

The concept of Sustainable development contains a lot of global goals to do our world better. Some of them are: elimination of poverty and hunger all over the world; a guarantee of healthy life for everybody; care of the environment etc.

But how can we personally help to reach these goals? There are a lot of possibilities. We can use a cloth bag instead of plastic one. We should try to recycle and reuse things. We should try to fix things instead of buying new. We should choose consciously the politicians who rule our country…So, it is only a small part what we personally can do to support the sustainable development. Let’s do our world better together!
