Мотивация выбора темы для презентации:
Тема презентации: «Путешествие в Лондон» выбрана не случайно – мне захотелось пополнить свои знания по английскому языку и узнать больше о Лондоне.
Работая над презентацией я поставила такие задачи:
- подобрать материал по данной теме;
- выбрать наиболее интересные и познавательные факты;
- систематизировать собранный материал и проанализировать результат.
В процессе работы над презентацией я расширила свои знания по английскому языку и узнала новые интересные факты о Лондоне.
Travel to London
London is the capital of the UK and one of the biggest cities in the world.

London is situated upon both banks of the
River Thames, it is the largest city in Britain
and one of the largest in the world .
Its population is about
7 million people.
Royal family
Queen Elizabeth II has been ruling the country for about 60 years. More than 64 years ago she got married. They have 2 children, to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Their elder son of Charles, Prince of Wales, is the heir to the throne.
Prince William, the eldest son of Prince Charles and his first wife, Princess Diana, will inherit the throne after his father.
Buckingham Palace Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of the Queen. The daily ceremony of the Changing of the Guards takes place in its courtyard. The palace was built in 1703 by Duke of Buckingham.
Houses of Parliament The Houses of Parliament stand on the bank of the Thems. Is situated there too the famous clock Big Ben. The country’s leaders speak in the Houses of Parliament. The men and women there are the voice of British people.
Westminster Abbey Westminster Abbey is another symbol of London. The legend says that Westminster Abbey was founded by St Peter himself. We know that Westminster Abbey was built by King Edward in 1065. The coronation of all British Kings and Queens takes place in Westminster Abbey. The funeral service for Diana, Princess of Wales, took place in Westminster Abbey in September 1997.
St.Paul Cathedral For centuries the magnificent dome of the Cathedral of St.Paul has been a noticeable and significant object on the phone of the London sky. It was built by sir Christopher Wren in 1673. But Cathedral was burnt down during the great fire of London, and the most famous of all the temples dedicated to St. Paul were damaged.
Trafalgar Square Trafalgar Square is the geographical centre of London. It was named in memory of Admiral Nelson’s victory in the battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The tall Nelson’s Column stands in the middle of the square. The traditional place of meetings, demonstrations and mass festivities - for example, the Chinese new year and Russian old new year. On the 8 may 1945, Sir Winsten Churchill the prime minister of Great Britan the asked Londoners to gather on the square and announced the victory and the Second world war.
Tower bridge - bascule bridge in Central London over the river Thames, close to the London Tower. It is the oldest and most famous bridge across the Thames. Originally it was made of wood . Later he was made of stone. Finally it was rebuilt and made of concrete. Sometimes his confused with London bridge to the upstream. Opened in 1894. Is also one of the symbols of London.
The Tower of London You can see Tower of London from the river Thames. The Tower is very old. Now the King and the Queen of Britain don’t live in the Tower.
Big Ben Tourists in London has always wanted see Big Ben. They want to see the clock in its tower and to hear the bells. Big Ben is really a bell and you hear it every hour. You can hear it’s deep tone on the radio.
Fin Fair. The London eye . Its Height is 135 metres and it weighing more than 250 double Decker buses, the London Eye is the most spectacular attraction, appeared in the city recently. Its Top offers stunning views of the main important places in London.
The Greenwich Observatory
It is the centre of time and space. The prime meridian of the Earth, which divides east from west passes there.
Madame Tussaud’s It is one of the sights of London. It’s the famous waxworks museum which has one of the largest collections of wax models in the world. You can meet great characters of history and art there. Here actors, film stars, pop singers, and sportsmen come face to face with famous politicians. There is a special place for the Queen’s family: the Queen, her husband, their children and other members of the Royal family.
The London Bus is one of London's principal icons, the archetypal red rear-entrance Routemaster being recognised worldwide. Although the Routemaster has now been largely phased out of service, with only two heritage routes still using the vehicles, the majority of buses in London are still red and therefore the red double-decker bus remains a widely recognised symbol of the city.
Knightsbridge it is known for the shops and boutiques. Here the most expensive boutiques of the most prestigious marks of the world are located.
Englishmen's home People all over the world know the saying: “The Englishmen’s home is his castle”. They like to live in small houses with small gardens. A typical feature of an English house is a fireplace, that's why many of them prefer the open fire to central heating.
Tea-drinkers The English are tea-drinkers. They have it many times a day. Some Englishmen have tea for breakfast, tea in lunch time, tea after dinner, tea at tea-time and tea after supper. Some English families have "high tea" or big tea and no supper. The Englishmen always drink tea in cups, never in glasses.
Coronation Day . The British marks the anniversary of the day when Elizabeth II became Queen.
The queen's telegram The Queen “s telegram is not a very old custom but it is for very old people. Every British person gets a telegram from the Queen on their one-hundredth birthday.
Changing of the Guards Changing the Guards a ceremony held outside Buckingham Palace in which the guards in red uniforms and black fur hats are replaced by others.
Changing of the Guards Guy Fawkes” Night is observed on the 5 th of November when people in Britain light fireworks and burn a straw guy on a bonfire. This celebration is often associated with collecting money for charity .
