I was dreaming

Употребляется:

Past Continuous употребляется для

Описания действия, происходившего в определенный момент в прошлом (этот прошедший момент может быть выражен другим однократным действием (обычно в Past Simple или указанием времени):

I was playing computer games at 5 p.m. yesterday. - Я играл в компьютерные игры в пять часов вечера.

Действии, которое происходило в прошлом и было прервано другим действием:

He was reading his when he noticed a mistake . - Он читал письмо, когда заметил ошибку.

Past Continuous часто употребляется после союза while (пока, в то время как) , а так же с выражениями from 5 till 6 , the whole evening (весь вечер),

t he whole day yesterday ...

Образование времени

Время Past Continuous образуется при помощи второй формы глагола

to be (was, were) и -ing формы смыслового глагола.

I was having a picnic at 11 p.m. last Sunday.

В 11 часов в прошлое воскресенье я была на пикнике.

Глагол to be в прошедшем времени

They were

Вопросительные :

- Was he talking on the phone at 8 o`clock last night? ?

Он разговаривал по телефону в 8 часов прошлым вечером?

-Yes, he was.

- No, he wasn`t.

- Were they playing volleyball at 9.00 p.m. yesterday?

В 9 часов вечера они играли в волейбол?

- Yes, they were

- No, they weren’t

Отрицательные предложения

He was not playing football when their mother called.

(Он не играл в футбол, когда мама позвала его).

They were not reading while his mother was cooking dinner.

( Они не читали в то время, когда его мама готовила обед.)

Сокращенные формы was not = wasn’t were not = weren’t
