The theme: Food and drink

The aims of the lesson:

               a) to enlarge pupil’s vocabulary, to speak about foods and drinks;

               b) to develop pupils’ skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking speech, to understand oral speech, to enrich listening;

               c) to develop the interest to English language, to teach pupils to respect each other  and the culture of another  nations, bring up them to love English languages. to speak about plants and animals;

The type of the lesson: mixed lesson.

The kind of the lesson: demonstrative lesson.

Visual aids: pictures, cards, an interactive board.

 

The procedure of the lesson:

 

I. Organization moment.

а)  Greeting

T: Good afternoon, pupils!

P: Good afternoon, teacher!

b) Warm-up

 - Put these words into three groups. Give a name to each group.

banana                 apple                    carrot

potato                   tea                       grape

c) Talking with the pupil on duty.

- Who is on duty today?

   Who is absent today?

   What is the date today?

   What day is it today?

   What is the weather like today?

 

II. Checking  up the home task.

  • Let’s check your home task.
  • I’ll show you cards with verbs, you should read, translate and say past forms of the verbs.

III. New theme.

      This apple is delicious. Those apples are bad.

       The water is hot.    There isn’t much water. 

IV. Work with pictures.  

 

  • Look at the pictures and say countable and uncountable nouns.

  - Complete the chart using the words in exercise 1.

VI. Speaking.

  • Look at the pictures of food and drink. Ask and talk to your partner what you like and don’t like. Use these questions:
  • What do you like? – Do you like…?
  • I like tea, but I don’t like coffee.

       VII. Singing a song.       The Food Song.

     VIII. Listening.

  • What is your favourite food?
  • Two people talk about the types of food they love and what cuisines they prefer.

 - What's my favorite food? Well, these days I really love fruit, especially grapes and I also like avocados. I don't really go for green apples though. They usually taste too sour. In the past I liked Italian food but these days I'm trying to be more healthy so I cut that out.

  - What's my favorite food? I don't really have any favorite food. I like guoza. It's the Japanese dumpling. I can never stop eating that. I guess that's my favorite food.

IX. Reading.

     - Read, translate  and guess what fruit is it?

  • OK, this fruit is big. It's round. It's pretty heavy. Usually, it's green on the outside. It's hard on the outside but very soft on the inside. You need to cut it before you can eat it.
  • OK, this fruit is soft on the outside and soft of the inside and you must peel it or cut it before you eat it. Usually people peel it with their hands before they eat it. It's round and it comes from a tree

X. Writing.

      - Match the questions with the answers.

    1. How many carrots do you have in your basket?

    2. How much are the tomatoes?

    3. How many pears are there?

   

  1. There are 2 pears.
  2. It’s five dollars.
  3. They are two dollars a kilo.

- Your home task is ex5, p49. To read and translate the text about Kazakh food.

  1. Organization moment:

  • T: Good morning, boys and girls!

  • P: Good morning, good morning!

  • Good morning to you!

  • Good morning, dear teacher,

  • We are glad to see you!

  • T: Thank you, I am glad to see you too.

  1. Warm-up:

-Let’s sing a song

What colour is the sky?

It’s blue, it’s blue, it’s blue.

The sky is blue, the sky is blue.

What colour is the sun?

It’s yellow, it’s yellow, it’s yellow.

The sun is yellow, the sky is blue.

What colour is the grass?

It’s green, it’s green, it’s green.

It’s red, it’s red, it’s red.

An apple is red, the grass is green, the sun is yellow, the sky is blue.

  1. Explaining the new theme:

-Do you like apples?

- What do you like to eat?

  • How do you think, what is the theme of our lesson?

  • Yes, you are right. Let’s begin our new lesson. The theme of the lesson is “Food and drink” and new grammar material is countable and uncountable nouns.

  1. Countable and Uncountable nouns:

  • Count the apples, please.

  • One apple, two apples, three apples, etc.

  • Can you count them?

  • Yes, we can count the apples. They are countable nouns.

  • Count the rice and the water, please.

  • No, we can’t count them. So, they are uncountable nouns. Uncountable nouns have only singular forms. F.ex. There is much water.

  1. Practise the grammar and lexical themes.

  1. –Are these words countable or uncountable?

  1. Complete the chart, using the new words:

  1. 1st team: Countable nouns

– Put the apples with the name of countable nouns (stickers with the names of foods and drinks ) into the basket

2nd team: Uncountable nouns: Stick the leaves with the names of uncountable nouns
