“I love english”

Title: “I Love English”

Date:15.10.2024

Duration: 40 minutes

Participants: 5th-grade students

Objective: To encourage students to demonstrate their love for English through fun, engaging activities.

Scene Setup:

    • The classroom is decorated with English-themed posters.

    • Four tables are labeled Team 1, Team 2, Team 3, and Team 4.

    • A whiteboard or projector for score tracking and visual tasks.

    • A speaker or audio system for the singing and dancing activities.

Materials Needed:

    • Flashcards with English words

    • Worksheets for a word puzzle

    • A timer

    • Music for the dancing activity

    • Small prizes for the winning team





Host (Teacher):

“Good afternoon, everyone! Welcome to our exciting competition, ‘I Love English!’ We have four amazing teams ready to show their English skills. Let’s meet the teams! 5B, 5V and 6A. Are you all ready?”



Activity 1: Warm-up (5 minutes)

Host:

“To start, we’ll warm up with a translation game. I’ll say a word in Kazakh and Russian, and the first team to raise their hand and translate it into English gets a point. Ready?”

Example Words:

  • Kazakh: Кітап (Russian: Книга)

  • English: Book

  • Kazakh: Шағын (Russian: Маленький)

  • English: Small

  • Kazakh: Үй жануары (Russian: Домашнее животное)

  • English: Pet

  • Kazakh: Ас (Russian: Пища)

  • English: Food

  • Kazakh: Жол (Russian: Дорога)

  • English: Road

  • Kazakh: Көл (Russian: Озеро)

  • English: Lake

  • Kazakh: Оқушы (Russian: Ученик)

  • English: Student

  • Kazakh: Мұз (Russian: Лед)

  • English: Ice

  • Kazakh: Адам (Russian: Человек)

  • English: Person

  • Kazakh: Көлік (Russian: Транспорт)

  • English: Transport

  • Kazakh: Көктем (Russian: Весна)

  • English: Spring



The host tracks points on the board.



Activity 2: Word Puzzle (10 minutes)

Host:

“Next, it’s time for a word puzzle! Each team will get a worksheet with a word search. You have 5 minutes to find as many English words as you can. The team that finds the most words will earn the most points!”



• Distribute the word puzzles to all four teams.

• Set the timer for 5 minutes.

• After time’s up, each team will share how many words they found, and points will be awarded.



Activity 3: Tongue Twisters (10 minutes)

Host:

“Now for something fun: tongue twisters! Each team will try to say a tongue twister as quickly and clearly as possible. You’ll get points for speed and pronunciation.”

Assign each team a different tongue twister to say.

Examples:

• Team 1: “Betty Botter bought some butter, but she said the butter’s bitter.”

• Team 2: “How can a clam cram in a clean cream can?”

• Team 3: “Six slippery snails slid slowly seaward.”

• Team 4: “Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear, Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hair.”



Each team takes turns, and points are awarded based on their performance.



Activity 4: Grammar exercise

Identify the Parts of Speech: Read the sentences below and underline the verbs, circle the nouns, and highlight the adjectives.

The happy dog barked loudly at the stranger.

A bright star twinkled in the dark sky.

The children played in the sunny park.

She quickly ran to the store to buy fresh fruits.

My best friend loves to read exciting books.

5V

The quick rabbit jumped over the fence.

A colorful butterfly landed on the flower.

The tall building touched the blue sky.

They joyfully sang a beautiful song in the park.

My little brother found a shiny coin on the ground.

6A

The excited children ran to the playground.

She wrote a funny story about a cat.

The lazy dog slept under the warm sun.

He quietly opened the door to the classroom.

The bright moon shone in the clear night.



Activity 5: Singing Challenge (10 minutes)

Host:

“Now it’s time for some music! Each team will sing a popular English song. You can sing as a group or let one person sing while the rest of the team helps with dancing or clapping. You’ll get points for enthusiasm and pronunciation!”

Song Suggestions:

• Team 1: “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”

• Team 2: “If You’re Happy and You Know It”

• Team 3: “The ABC Song”

• Team 4: “Old MacDonald Had a Farm”

• Teams take turns singing their chosen song, with points awarded for teamwork, pronunciation, and energy.



Conclusion (Final 2 minutes)

Host:

“That was fantastic! All teams did an amazing job today, but now it’s time to find out which team scored the most points!”

The host tallies up the points and announces the winning team.

Host:

“Congratulations to Team ............! You are the champions of the ‘I Love English’ competition! Let’s give them a big round of applause. Thank you to everyone for participating. Keep practicing your English, and remember, learning a language is fun!”
