London is the capital of England. It lies on the river Thames. It has a population of over 8,6 million people. It's an old city. London is famous for its historic buildings as St. Paul's Cathedral, the Houses of Parliament, where you can see and hear the famous clock, Big Ben. It's also famous for its parks. There are green squares too. There are five in the city centre. Children's favourite place is Hamleys, which is the biggest toy in the world. London has problems with traffic and pollution. Over one million people a day use the London underground, but there are still too many cars on the streets. London is a centre for business and for tourism. There are a lot of theatres and museums. People from all over cinemas, the world visit London every year. It has about ten thousand streets. Most of them are not very wide. Oxford Street is Lon don's important shopping centre.
Astana
Astana is the capital of Kazakhstan. It's in the central part of Kazakhstan, on the river Esil. It has a population of over eight hundred thousand people. Astana is famous for its modern buildings. The popular buildings are the monument of Baiterek, the Circus and the entertainment centre of Duman. Astana also has a problem with traffic. There are many cars on the streets. That's why the city is noisy and crowded. Astana is not a centre for tourism but it's a cultural and business centre. It has a lot of cinemas, theatres and museums. Most of wide streets are in the centre.
Exercise 3 Compare the two cities. Find similarities and differences.
