The following proverbs are written on the blackboard:

“Money is a good servant, but a bad master”
Teacher: – Good morning, everybody. Glad to see you! Please, look at the blackboard and read the proverbs. I want you to give me your interpretation of each proverb. Do you agree with the statements or not, and why? Each of you may choose one of the two (pupils speak giving arguments to support their opinions). By the way, mind that “money” is always singular!
Активизациясловарногозапаса
- What does money mean to you? (just means to buy what I want; an inherent part of my life; independency, bad habit, etc.) How do we say about money parents give you regularly? (allowance).
How do we call money you get from your parents to spend on what you like from time to time? (pocket money)

Some parents require their children to earn allowance by doing work in and around the house. Other parents do not give allowance at all. Still others give money to their children without requiring any work from them.
Which way is best for you? Explain why.
- I want you all to give arguments (explanations) to support your point of view (pupils speak on the topic).
- Well, now we have different opinions of different pupils. I want you to divide into groups (pairs). Each of you chooses a pair with the view that differs from your own. Ready? You are going to have a discussion (dispute), each supporting your opinion and asking questions to your neighbour.
