1. Формирование новых знаний.

Для того чтобы рассказать о том, что находится в доме, англичане используют выражение there is и there are.

Например принято говорить:

There is a chair in the room.

There are four chairs in the room.

Сравните эти предложения и найдите отличия.

Итак is употребляется в единственном числе, а are во множественном.

Перевод таких предложений начинается с обстоятельства места, а поможет нам его найти вопрос Где? – В комнате есть стул. Обстоятельство места чаще всего находится в конце предложения, поэтому часто говорят, что предложения с оборотом there is/there are переводятся с конца. Допускаются различные переводы формы глагола to be в этих предложениях – есть, находится, стоит, лежит, висит…

Краткие ответы соответственно звучат: Yes, there is/No, there is not.

Yes, there are/No, there are not.

Отрицательные предложения:

There is a chair in the room.

There is no chair in the room.

Внимание! Неопределенный артикль выпадает при появлении отрицательной частицы no.
