Организационный момент.
T: Good morning, girls and boys! How are you?
P: Fine, thank you. And you?
T: Fine, too. Today is our lesson on the topic “Scotland the Beautiful”.
We have talked about this country, read the text, learnt the poem by heart, sung the song. It’s high time to summarize and to control your knowledge.
So today we are going to review the material, remind some facts and interesting information, activate lexical material and at the end you have to do a short test.

T: First let’s do a phonetic drill. Do you remember the tongue-twister about the ragged rascal? Let’s see which of you can say it quicker.

T: What can you say about Scotland, about its parts? (Слайд 3)
P: Scotland is a country in the United Kingdom to the North of England. The country is divided into Highlands and Lowlands. Most of the industry is concentrated in Lowlands. Glasgow is its largest and busiest town, Edinburgh is its capital.
T: You said the country is divided into Highlands and Lowlands, What do we know about the Highlands?
P: We have learnt the poem by Robert Burns “My Heart’s in the Highlands”
T: Very good! Let’s remember it.
P: My heart’s in the Highlands, my heart is not here,
My heart’s in the Highlands a-chasing the deer,
A-chasing the wild deer and following the roe –
My heart’s in the Highlands, wherever I go!

Who wants to say about Edinburgh?
P: Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland. It is very proud but friendly. It has a great past and known as the Athens of the North. It is ancient city. (слайд 4,5)
T: Very good! Now I want to know about the Edinburgh Castle.
P: The most interesting parts of the city are the Old town and the New town. The Old town lies between the Castle and the Holy rood Palace.
The Castle hangs over the city like Disney cartoon. It looks good in any weather but at night it looks like a castle in a fairy tale.
T: Oh, it was wonderful answer. Now who want to tell me about military tattoo?
P: Military tattoo takes place every August and September. For 600 people perform in the square in front of the castle. The performers play military music and march to it.
T: Lovely answer, thanks. So I want to know about the Cannongate, Holyrood House and the Royal Mile.
P: A line of streets, which runs from the Castle to Holyrood House, is called the Royal Mile. Holyrood house is a big royal Palace which is the residence of the Queen. The most picturesque place of the Royal Mile is the Cannongate.
T: Excellent! About the Greyfriars Bobby …
P: One of the most modest monument - t is the monument to a dog called Bobby. When his master died he lived near his grave for 26 years. Now this statue is the symbol of devotion.
T: Who wants to tell me about the most beautiful city?
P: The princess Street is the most beautiful street in the New Town. It has a lot of gardens, and popular with shopping centers.
T: Can you tell me, what monument is situated here?
P: Yes, I can say. It is the Scott Monument. Inside it there is a marble statue of the write, and of his favorite dog.
