The London Planetarium
Cloud, rain, street lights, even moonlight, can all prevent you from seeing the stars in the sky. But the stars in the Planetarium dome are seen perfectly well, whatever the weather.
In this artificial sky time and distance disappear: events which take millions of years can pass before your eyes in seconds. A planetarium star show makes it possible to see our small planet in the vast space.
The Science Museum of London
At the Science Museum you will find the first steam engines of the eighteenth century and the first steam turbine of the nineteenth; the first food can and the Vickers Vimy aircraft which made the first non – stop Atlantic crossing in 1919.
But the Science Museum is not only a place to look at and wonder. There are over 600 working exhibits. Many of them encourage the visitors to experience science and technology “hands – on”. In Launch Pad, a favourite with children, you can be a human battery, compare the wind drag on cars of different shapes, build a bridge and take part in many other challenging activities.
The Science Museum in London present an extraordinary story of innovation and achievement. Its collections in the fields of science, technology and medicine show the history and the progress of modern scientific and industrial man.
Museums of science and industry, Manchester
This is Europe’s largest industrial museum. It tells a fascinating story of British industrial heritage and of how Manchester became the world’s first industrial city. Through hundreds of exhibits, many in full working order, the past is brought vividly to life.
No matter how many times you visit, you will always find something new and interesting – a new exhibit or even a completely new exhibition.
