Lesson objectives

All students will be able to

  • Organize the information about Natural Disasters with support of peers

  • Fill in the gaps

  • Design the page of article


Most students will be able to

  • Write the plan with target language

Some students will be able to

  • Write and edit the article about ND (70 – 80 words) in appropriate style

  • Use TL with grammar accuracy (allowed 2 – 3 mistakes)

  • Spelling accuracy (allowed 3 – 4 mistakes)

  1. (W) Lead-in

Step 1.Learners take the cards with the words of four themes(fruits, school things, sport, vegetables: four words for each theme);

Step 2. Think about the question ”What is common between these cards?”;

Step 3. Find their groups;

Step 4. Gather four cards are united one theme and turn over;

Step 5.Learners from each group see flashcards with ND (volcano, tsunami, earthquake, avalanche)


  1. (I) Brainstorming

Answer the questions:

  • What is a disaster?

  • What types of disasters do you know?

  • Have you ever faced with disaster?

  • What types of disaster are common for our country


Middle

  1. (G) Input

JIGSAW reading activity(Reading for specific information in details)/ Mingle activity: (read four texts about ND for discussion). Read the texts in groups according three criteria( types, causes, potential problems) and divide it at the Graphic Organizer . Share information with other groups.


  1. (P, I) Writing the plan

Work in pairs. Write the plan for three-four points.

    1. Differentiation for less able learners. Handout. Fill in the gaps with the correct words. Use each word one time. Key words: tornadoes, hailstorm, flood, volcano, drought, avalanche, tidal wave)


  1. (P, I) Writing the article

Work in pairs. Write the article about ND using the plan.(70-80 words)

    1. Differentiation for less able learners. Design the page of article.

Peer assessment: more able learners check the written sentences of less able learners, find mistakes
