Every country has its own symbols. That’s why our theme today is «National symbols of Russia». Today we will talk about the official and unofficial symbols of our country and learn to describe them.

The flag of the Russian Federation was set up as a rectangular panel with equal horizontal stripes. The flag has three wide stripes on it. The stripes are white, blue and red. The colours of the flag are symbolic. White symbolizes peace, purity, perfection (or freedom); blue symbolizes constancy, faith and loyalty; red symbolizes energy, and bloodshed for their country. Emblem of Russia is one of the main symbols of state of Russia, along with the flag and the anthem. Modern Russian coat of arms is a golden double-headed eagle on a red background. Above the heads of the eagle there are three crowns, they symbolize the sovereignty of the Russian Federation. In the legs it has the scepter and orb, symbolizing the power of the state . There is the image of a horseman spearing a dragon on the chest. This is one of the oldest symbols of the struggle between good and evil, light and darkness, defending the homeland.
On November 30, 1993 Russian President Boris Yeltsin signed a decree on the National Emblem. Now the two-headed eagle, as before, symbolizes the power and unity of the Russian state.

The National Anthem of the Russian Federation. The National Anthem of the Russian Federation is the national hymn of Russia. The music was composed by Alexander Alexandrov. The words for the anthem of the Russian Federation were written by Sergey Mikhalkov, who also wrote words for versions of the Soviet anthem in 1943. President of the Russian SFSR, Boris Yeltsin, decided to select the song "Patrioticheskaya pesnya" by Mikhail Glinka. The anthem, without lyrics, was not popular. On December 30, 2000 a decree adding words in Russian’s newly restored Soviet-era anthem has been signed by President Vladimir Putin. Modern anthem as before is a symbol of unity of the people and respect the past.
