Solving a puzzle.

Learners are divided into 2 teams. Teacher gives a paper to each team with the word “ENGLISH”. The winner team is that to elicit the word.

A teacher asks learners “What word is THIS?” “What does it mean?” , giving clues (in Russian)– You learn it. It is in England. Learners try to guess the meaning of the word.

Taxi, hotel, mobile tennis, pizza, coke. Teacher explains that all these words are international- used in all countries in all languages almost the same way.

1)Modelling: teacher demonstrates the pictures and changes first slowly then very quickly making children to catch up with the rhythm of moving pictures. Teacher says initial sound, so she\he presents 6 sounds pictures: l h t m p c

2) Recasting: teacher asks CCQ indicating the wrong pictures “Is this pizza? Is this coke?..... etc Students reply Yes/No

3)Drilling: *game “Black box” students are to to make predictions what word is hidden in the box. Learners give their suppositions. *learners play game “Pelmanism” in pairs: they have cards with new vocabulary word initial sounds l h t m p c and pictures turned over. then a learner opens one card with thw word and 1 card with a picture. And if they coincide and match a learner gets these 2 cards. The winner is who picks the biggest number of cards.

Evaluation of the lesson


Evaluation of the lesson

Students make a collage with the whole class sticking the word ENGLISH in the middle of the poster and attaching international words around it.

Learners observe and comment the result of their work, sharing what was difficult and easy.

Teacher give everyone some smiles to assess their work during the lesson.
