Pair work
Today our lesson will be unusual. We’ll work in pair. In our class we have three pairs. I’ll give tasks for every pair.
1st pair. Text: Smoking and thumb sucking
Adult n – ересек
Crooked adj – қисық
Lisp v –бұрмалап сөйлеу
Harmful adj –зиянды
Suck v –сору, ему
Thumb n –бас бармақ
Offensive –тіл тигізген, қорлаған, жағымсыз
Outgrow – бір нәрсені жасы келе қою
Smoking and thumb sucking are two bad habits that are difficult to give up. One is an adult behaviour, and one is a childish habit.
A second similarity between two is that they both have bad effects on health. Smoking causes lung cancer, heart disease, and other respiratory illnesses. While thumb sucking is not so harmful to a child’s health, the habit can cause crooked teeth and lisping.
The third thing in common for both are that smoking and thumb sucking are described as relaxing and calming activities.
There are also some differences between smoking and thumb sucking. The main differences is that smoking is addictive, while thumb sucking is not. The addiction-causing thing in tobacco is nicotine. This addiction makes it harder for the smoker to give up the habit. Thumb sucking, on the other hand, is usually outgrown by the age of two. What is this text about?
2nd pair Text : Alcohol
Alcohol n –алкоголь
Inseparable adj – ажырағысыз
Mobilize v – жұмылдыру
Nervous n – жүйке
Teenager n – жасөспірім
Cooler adj –
Harmful adj – зиянды
Alcohol presents in the lives of almost everyone. Someone drink only on holidays, someone who likes to relax . Alcohol is a problem that goes to the national level. Young people today are inseparable from the beer. And if an adult is somehow able to mobilize after taking alcohol, because he already has formed the nervous system, the person age 15-20 can not do it. We think, teenagers start smoking and drink alcohol because of their problems. If a teenager has some problems with parents or problems in school, he thinks that alcohol or smoking can solve these problems.
Also teenagers may start drinking or smoking thanks to their friends. If a teenager has friends who smoking or drinking alcohol, he wants to be like them. A lot of people think that these bad habits make them cooler. But it’s wrong. There are a lot of another ways of expressing yourself. Start doing sport or write something and it will be less harmful for you but more useful
3rd pair: Text: Fast food
Fast food – тез дайындалатын тағам
Chain n – қатар
Menu n – дастархан мәзірі
Contain v – содержать
Grown-up - ересек адам
Calories n – калория
Vitamin n – дәрумен
Modern life runs so quickly that people often don’t have enough time to eat. And most certainly they get little time for cooking. That’s why fast-food chains have become so popular. They provide simple menus, which usually contain French fries, hamburgers, sandwiches, salads, milk cocktails, and else. Perhaps the most famous fast-food chain is McDonalds. This place is rather popular among children and grown-ups. However, doctors all over the world find fast food rather unhealthy.
They say that fast food contains many calories, lots of fat and just a few vitamins. The question about fast food always brings up many opinions. Some people state that it’s not bad and is a good idea for lunch. Children are also among those who like fast-food chains. In conclusion, We’d like to say that everyone has a choice. We choose fresh fruit and vegetables, a salad and an orange juice.
