THE COAT of ARMS of Nakhodka

The emblem of Nakhodka represents a heraldic shield divided into three fields: top field - horizontal red rectangle (one of the colors of the Russian flag); left field - a vertical rectangle of blue (symbolizing the sea); right field. Green - a symbol of freedom and hope. On the shield stamp field located caduceus (two crossed snake - a symbol of wisdom, vigilance; wings of Hermes (Mercury) - the symbol of trade ,symbolize Nakhodka role as a major trading city

The Flag of Nakhodka

Nakhodka flag represents:

1. Cloth is white, a rectangular shape 2. Three blue stripes symbolize the sea 3. The anchor in the center symbolizes the port city. White color - a symbol of peace. Blue color is a symbol of glory, honor and loyalty.

The history of Nakhodka

Nakhodka Bay, around which the city is organized, was discovered in 1859 by the Russian corvette Amerika, which sought shelter in the bay during a storm. In honor of this occasion, the ice-free and relatively calm bay was named Nakhodka, which in Russian means "discovery" or "lucky find". Nakhodka remained virtually uninhabited until 1907, when a small village was founded on the banks of the Kamenka River, the village was named Amerikanka in honour of the Bay.

Nakhodka, as a city, is quite young, it was founded in 1950.. In 1950 the workmen's settlement of Nakhodka got the status of town. Since that date Nakhodka has started its historical development as a town and port.

• Nakhodka is an important transport junction where goods from Japan are transferred from ships onto the Russian railway system, including the Trans-Siberian Railway portion of the Eurasian Land Bridge.

The city's modern economic potential is manifested in its ocean fleets, fishing industry, ship-repair facilities and warm deep-water ports

Sisters’ Towns

. Since 1960s Nakhodka has been maintaining not only economic, but also friendship relations with the cities of Japan (its sister cities are Maizuru, Otaru, Tsuruga), the USA (Oakland and Bellingham). Since the early 1990s Donghe (the Republic of Korea) and Girin (China) have joined the list of Nakhodka's sister cities.
