Тема урока: Mass Media in our life

Цели урока:


познакомить с новой лексикой и уметь употреблять новые слова при обсуждении вопросов;

формирование умений и навыков в чтении говорении, правильном произношении.


развивать, догадку, память и мышление;

развитие самостоятельной работы в группах


мотивировать учащихся к изучению иностранного языка;

воспитание чувства взаимопомощи, умения работать в паре и группе;

воспитание культуры общения и сотрудничества.

Тип урока: комбинированный с применением ИКТ

Оборудование урока: интерактивная доска; презентация в Power Point; учебник

Ход урока:

1. Организационный момент

Good morning, students! How are you? I’m glad to see you! Sit down, please. Who is on duty today? What’s the date today? And what day is it today? Thank you.

2. Сообщение темы и цели урока

Today we live in the time of information. Where can we get the information? What is Mass Media? We will read speak about it and discuss it at our lesson. At the end of the lesson please answer this question: What should you do to be well informed person?

3. Warm-up

What types of Mass Media are there? Look at the chart.


4. Guess the meaning of the following words:

  3. What information can be found in mass media?

  4. What kind of programmes do Discovery Channels broadcast?

  5. What Radio music programmes do you know?

  6. Why can one be lost in the information ocean of television?

  7. What is your favourite TV programme? Why?

  8. What TV programmes do your parents prefer?

  9. Do you think everyone should have a computer? Why?

  10. What is the value of the Internet?

7. Work in groups of three. Read the text and discuss it in small groups.

8. Let’s have a rest. Stand up, please (Physical pause)

Your homework was to learn the new words, ex.4. p.137 Give the English equivalents.

You’ll listen to the text «Media in Great Britain».

1. Give the full names to the television services BBC, ITV

2. Tick the most favourite tv programmes of British teenagers:

3. Work in pairs. Chain quiz: each student answers a question and asks the next student in line the next question, making a chain of questions and answers.

1) What popular British newspapers can you name?

2) What quality British newspapers can you remember?

3) What is the full name of BBC?

4) What programmes do British teens enjoy watching?

5) Have you ever watched any of those programmes?

6) What kind of videos do British teens usually watch?

7) What types of media are used for broadcasting news?

8) How much TV do British people watch per day?

9) BBC is a terrestrial type of television.

What other type of television was mentioned?

4. Тренировка навыков чтения и говорения

The students should form 3 groups. Each gets matching-card:

Match the words with the right description. Group 1

Brochure A newspaper that has small pages, short articles and lots of photographs. They are often considered to be less serious than other newspapers.

Rag A newspaper that is printed on large sheets of paper measuring approximately 38 cm by 61 cm. They are generally considered to be more serious than other newspapers.

Tabloid A magazine or booklet with pictures that gives you information about a product or service.

Broadsheet People refer to a newspaper as a rag when they have a low opinion of it.

Match the words with the right description. Group 2

Review A piece of writing in a newspaper or magazine.

Front page One of the parts into which a newspaper is divided.

Section A front page article or picture appears on the front page of a newspaper because it is very important or interesting.

Headline The title of a newspaper story, printed in large letters at the top of it, especially on the front page. Headlines are the main points of the news which are read on radio or TV.

Article A report in a newspaper or magazine in which someone gives their opinion of a new book, film, TV programme, record, play or concert.

Feature A prominent or special article, story, or department in a newspaper or periodical.

Supplement An article in a publication expressing the opinion of its editors or publishers

Match the words with the right description. Group 3

Reporter A person whose job is to collect news or other information and write about it in newspapers or magazines or talk about it on TV or radio.

Editor A journalist who regularly writes particular kind of article in a newspaper or magazine.

Hack The person who is in charge of a newspaper and who decides what will be published in it. A journalist who is responsible for a particular section of a newspaper. A person who checks and corrects texts before they are published.

Journalist Someone who writes new articles or broadcasts new reports.

Columnist A journalist who writes for money without worrying very much about the quality of their writing.

Foreign correspondent A correspondent who sends news reports or commentary from a foreign country for broadcast or publication.

The groups now should be twisted so every new group must have at least one member from every former one. Their task is to describe the new words to each other.

5. Создание постера

Groups of 5. Time – 5 min


Secretary – notes everything down.

Designer – makes the poster look attractive.

Board of Creative Directors – generate smart ideas.

Proof Reader – checks for mistakes.

Presenter – presents the poster when it’s finished.

When writing down the information, use the plan:

  • Name of the programme

  • Type

  • When is it on?

  • Age group (Who is it mostly watched by?)

  • Characteristics

Think of answers for these questions.

What is in the news in your country at the moment?

What type of mass media do you use, and why do you use that type for?

What do you think of the press in your country? Is it sensationalist and exploitative? Or is it serious and impartial?

Why radio is still one of the favourite types of the media?
