IV. Make up conditional sentences using the correct form of the verb (mixed types).

If the secretary had informed him about the appointment, he would be present at it now.

V . Translate into English.

Конструкция I wish (If only)

Конструкция I wish (If only) на русский язык может переводиться двумя способами и служит для выражения:

.. сожаления о настоящей ситуации (глагол употребляется в Past Simple):

I wish (If only) I lived nearer to the university. (Как жаль, что я не живу ближе к университету/Если бы я только жил ближе к университету!);

.. сожаления о прошлом (глагол употребляется в Past Perfect):

I wish (If only) I hadn’t shouted at him. (Как жаль, что я на него накричал/Если бы я только не накричал на него!);

..сожаления о наличии/отсутствии способностей (употребляется конструкция could + bare infinitive):

I wish (If only) I could run much faster. (Как жаль, что я не умею бегать гораздо быстрее/Если бы я только умел гораздо быстрее бегать!);

.. пожелания изменить что-то в ситуации или в чьем-либо поведении (употребляется конструкция would + bare infinitive):

I wish (If only) the rain would stop . (Как жаль, что дождь не прекращается/Если бы только дождь прекратился
