I четверть Аудирование

Listen to four people speaking about their experiences of doing dangerous sports and match the speakers with the kind of sports. Then listen again and match the statements with the speakers.

Speaker 1

I started racing BMX bikes at five. My parents hated it, so at 16 I did other sports like tennis and football. But I loved danger. I finally went back to biking at 20. When I started, I had a lot of injuries. I had broken bones, cuts and bruises and I cracked a rib. Then I learned how to fall and how to avoid injury. I love the adrenalin rush – there’s nothing like that feeling.


Speaker 2

First, my parents gave me a pair of roller skates. Then they saved up to buy me inline skates. At 16, I started competing. I just loved the sport. I hate it when guys say girls can’t do things – that’s what pushes me to be better. I want to show that girls can do anything they want to. But then I got a sprained knee. That injury usually takes about six weeks to get better.


Speaker 3

I started at 20, four years ago. It’s really the sport for me. The thrill of danger stops time and makes every colour seem brighter. In the air, I really feel alive! The adrenaline rush is so exiting, you just don’t know until you try. It stays with you for life. I’m lucky, I never get any injuries. My mom doesn’t like it at all. She comes to my shows but she never watches me jump.


Speaker4

I first tried surfing in Australia, when I was 15. My parents were worried. They thought surfing was dangerous. For me, the danger was thrilling! When I got home, I started riding waves every day at beach near my house. My parents finally agreed that surfing was for girls. Now they find it exiting too. Everyone wants to do something when they grow up. But if you do something you love, that’s when you’ll be a happy person.

And then my grandfather being a forester… he went to a forest… which was a really big forest and a bear had woken up during his winter sleep… and he had a real fight with the bear… and was… was injured… and apparently fainted and was lying in the snow for a long time and got pneumonia and died. When my mother was three I think.

The 22nd of September is a day when humans might damage the ozone layer less than on other days. Why? It is International Car Free Day, Which is celebrated worldwide by over 100 million people in about 1,500 cities. The global event is a day for people to leave their cars at home. This means car drivers can help reduce global warming and perhaps get some exercise instead. It is also aimed at encouraging drivers into considering more environmentally friendly alternatives to cars. Many cities will close off whole roads to cars. In Europe, the day forms part of European Mobility Week. It has the theme “clever commuting”. Clever commuting aims to encourage alternative modes of transport, in order to reduce traffic jams and transport-related greenhouse gases and to improve the health and quality of life. European citizens will have the opportunity to enjoy a full week of events dedicated to sustainable car driving.

Listen to the airline safety instructions and match the pictures with the items mentioned on the recording. Then listen again and put the items on the list in the correct order.

Flight attendant:

Good morning, Ladies and gentlemen, and welcome aboard Pulkovo Airlines flight 843 to Sochi via Krasnodar. We shall be taking off in approximately 10 minutes’ time. I’d like to draw your attention to the safety demonstration that is about to take place.

There are six emergency exits on this plane… two at the front… two in the middle… and two at the back. If you are instructed to do so by the cabin staff, proceed to the nearest exit as quickly as possible. Do not attempt to take any personal belongings with you, and ladies please take off high-heeled shoes.

The seat belts on this aircraft are fastened like this (click) and unfastened like this (click).

There is a life-jacket under your seat. If instructed to do so, put the life- jacket over your head, like this… and tie the straps in a bow at the side. Inflate the life-jacket by pulling the strings. Please do not blow the life jacket up while you are still inside the plane.

In the unlikely event of the reduction of the air in the cabin, oxygen masks will drop automatically from above your head. If this happens, place the mask over your face and breathe normally.

Please note that smoking is not allowed on board this plane at any time.

For your information and safety, please read the instruction booklet in the seat pocket in front of you.

Now in preparation for tale off, make sure your seat-belt is securely fastened, your seat is in upright position and the table in front of you is folded away.
