Theme: Adverbs of frequency The aim: 1) To point out the in and out-of-class opportunities for practicing and improving their English. 2) Introduce pupils how to use the adverbs of frequency. 3) To increase pupils’ vocabulary. Visual aids: Blackboard drawings, tables for prompting, exercise cards to hand out, photocopied activity “My friend” 1. Organization moment: a) Greeting b) Dialogues with duty.(date,day,attendance) 2.Checking home task : Ex.7a p.65,Activity Book: p.45,Activities 1-3.Learning by heart the song “My best friend” 3. New lesson: • Introduction: write always,usually,often,sometimes,never in mixed order on the board. Then draw five steps and write never over the bottom one. Ask students to put the remaining adverbs in order of frequency. Grammar practice - Never makes the sentence negative and we cannot use not with it. - Teacher writes two sentences on the board, one with verb be and the other one with a different verb. Include adverbs of frequency in the sentences. Ask students what they notice about the position of the adverbs of frequency in the sentences and elicit the rule that they appear after the verb be and before other verbs. To practice word order teacher writes a sentence on the board, e.g. I’m on time and saying an adverb of frequency, e.g. always, asks one student to insert the adverb in the sentence orally,i.e. I’m always on time and then asks another student naming another adverb. Teacher continues the game, writing different sentences on the board, e.g.: We surf the Internet - You are tired - She walks to school - They are hungry - • Study skills. Teacher brainstorms with the whole class how to be a good student of English. Then asks students to listen and read the questionnaire to compare their ideas. Ask students to count how many things from the questionnaire they do. • On the board teacher writes the following additional suggestions on how to be a good student of English if no one has mentioned them before: find a pen pal, watch films in English, surf the Internet, ask the teacher for help, help other students. • Students ask and answer the questions in pairs. o Do you usually write new words in your exercise book? o Do you always do your English home work? o Do you sometimes listen to songs in English? o Do you often ask and answer questions in class? o Do you always listen to your teacher and classmates? o Do you sometimes look up new words in a dictionary? • Song. Play the song and tell students complete the task below the lyrics. They should compare their answers in pairs and then check with the whole class. Play it again, with students singing. Answer key: 1. Late 2. Bad 3. Midnight 4. Sleep 5. banana 4. Setting the home task: 1. Students’ Book Activity-7 a),b),Activity Book page 45, Activities 4-8 2. Students write sentences including adverbs of frequency about being a good student of English, e.g. I often watch films in English. Then be ready to retell it. 5. Concluding stage: That is all for today. Thank you! The lesson is over. Good bye!
