2nd leading person: Valentine`s Day is the traditional day on which lovers express their feelings for each other.
This is how it began
Why is the day called St Valentine's? There were two martyrs of that name in ancient Rome. Both of them lived in the third century AD.
One of them was a Christian priest who had been thrown in prison for his teachings. He fell in love with the jailer's daughter and supposedly cured her of her blindness. The night before his execution on February 14th, he wrote her a farewell letter and signed it "From Your Valentine".
Another Valentine was an Italian bishop. Emperor Claudius II had forbidden marriage because he thought that married men made poor soldiers. However, the bishop didn't obey and married couples secretly. When it was found out, Valentine was put to death.
The custom of celebrating St Valentine's Day, however, is older than Christianity. In ancient Rome there was a festival called Lupercalia. A young man would draw the name of a young girl who would be his sweetheart in the coming year. Throughout the ages, people also believed that birds picked their mates on February 14th!
This is the day birds choose their mate
And I choose you if I'm not too late.
1 leading person:
“Valentine`s Day is a day of love
Where love is a bright as the sun
We share kisses, and even a hug
With people we call our loved ones… ”

(The business woman and fellow are going to cafe. There are candles, hearts, cake and ice-cream. It is romantic atmosphere. The group of girls is singing the song of Jessica Simpson “Angels”, the couple is dancing)
Words of the song (Jessica Simpson “Angels”)
I sit and wait Does an angel Contemplate my fate And do they know The places where we go When we're grey and old 'Cause I've been told That salvation lets their wings unfold So when I'm lying in my bed Thoughts running through my head And I feel that love is dead I'm loving angels instead
And through it all He offers me protection A lot of love and affection Whether I'm right or wrong And down the waterfall Wherever it may take me I know that life won't break me When I come to call He won't forsake me I'm loving angels instead
When I'm feeling weak And my pain walks down a one way street I look above And I know I'll always be blessed with love And as the feeling grows He breathes flesh to my bones And when love is dead I'm loving angels instead
And through it all He offers me protection A lot of love and affection Whether I'm right or wrong And down the waterfall Wherever it may take me I know that life won't break me When I come to call He won't forsake me I'm loving angels instead
I'm loving angels instead, ohhh oh yeah
And through it all He offers me protection A lot of love and affection Whether I'm right or wrong And down the waterfall Wherever it may take me I know that life won't break me When I come to call He won't forsake me I'm loving angels instead.
Here come some more poems about love. Read and enjoy them.
Love blows as the wind blows. Blows!., in the quiet close As in the roaring mart, By ways no mortal knows Love blows into the heart. The stars some cadence use. Forthright the river flows, In order fall the dews, Love blows as the wind blows; Blows! and what reckoning shows The courses of his chart? A spirit that comes and goes, Love blows into the heart.
William Ernest Henley
Goldenhair
I'll love you dear, I'll love you Till China and Africa meet And the river jumps over the mountain And the salmon sings in the street. I'll love you till the ocean Is folded and hung up to dry And the seven stars go squawking Like geese about the sky.
W.H. Auden
This is a simple story – One day I was going to die; But instead of that I wrapped up my heart with green paper, I don't know why. And I tied it up with a string in spring, And I throw it far away – There, where is a sea, The your sea, you see – It's floating to you, they say.
Robert Frost
It is also possible to speak about love in a humorous way. It would be fun if you translated one or two of these poems into Russian.
My True Love
On Monday, Monday, My True Love said to me, "I've brought you this nice pumpkin; I picked it off a tree!"
On Tuesday, Tuesday, My True Love said to me, "Look — I've brought you sand tarts; I got them by the sea."
On Wednesday, Wednesday, My True Love said to me, "I've caught you this white polar bear; It came from Tennessee."
On Thursday, Thursday, My True Love said to me, "This singing yellow butterfly I've all for you, from me."
On Friday, Friday, My True Love said to me, "Here's a long-tailed guinea-pig; It's frisky as can be."
On Saturday, Saturday, To my True Love I said, "You have not told me one true thing, So vou I'll never wed!"
Ivy D. Eastwick
I love you more than lemonade. And seven-layer cake, Than lollipops, And candy drops, And thick vanilla shake.
I Love You More than Applesauce
I love you more than applesauce Than peaches and a plum, Than chocolate hearts, And cherry tarts, And berry bubble-gum.
I love you more than marzipan, Than marmalade on toast; For I love pies Of any size, But I love you the most.
