Teacher: Look at the photo. Do you know this man?
Yes. You are right. It’s Mark Twain, the famous American writer.
What is his famous work? Yes, it’s “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”
And now the members of our English Club will tell you about his life and
work. Then you’ll see some scenes from the book. Let’s start!
ECM: Hi, friends! Glad to meet you! Welcome to our Cub! Ask your questions, please.
P1: Where was Mark Twain born, I want to know?
ECM: Well, he was born in Florida, the USA. There were seven children in the family.
P2: Could you tell us about his parents?
ECM: Oh yes. His father was a local lawyer but he wasn’t successful. And the family seldom lived more than a year in the same city. As for his mother, she ran the house.
P3: They say Mark Twain began to work at the age of 12. Is it so?
ECM: Just so He had to leave school and begin to work because his father died. when the boy was 11.
P4: What did he do, I wonder?
For two years he worked as a printer and a reporter. Then he worked as a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi river.
.
P5: Is Mark Twain his real name, please?
ECM: Oh no. It’s his penname. His real name is Samuel Clemens.
P6: We know “ The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” made him famous. Were Tom and his friends real persons?
ECM: Actually, many events and characters in the book were from real life. Tom Sawyer was very often the portrait of the writer. And aunt Polly was his mother.
Thanks for your questions. Now a short quiz.
(ECMs ask questions to the pupils about Mark Twain’s life)
