Going to Britain                      

Objectives: - to teach pupils to use learnt words and phrases in oral speech
- to enrich pupils` knowledge about British countries
- to develop communicative skills and abilities using various kinds of 
activities.
- to bring up the feelings of respect to foreign countries
to do practical work and to motivate self – study and group work.
Equipment: interactive board, slides & pictures about Britain, map of the UK, 
cards.

Procedure of the lesson:

I. Motivation
1. Greeting T Gr.
2. Dialogue with pupil on duty T P1
3. Brainstorming - speaking about different languages.
a.“unscramble words” - khisrut, namreg, sepaneaj, egrek, hilgens.
b. “ Correct the sentences” - “Yes, it is right. \ No, it is wrong.” 
German is spoken in England.
Japanese is spoken in Greek.
. Russian is spoken in Germany.
Italian is spoken in the USA.
Kazakh is spoken in Uzbekistan.
English is spoken in Russia. 
4. Checking of the home task. Ex.4, 6 p.129.

II. Presentation.
T. Dear Friends! I am sure that all people like to travel. We learn the English language and it's very interesting for us to visit any of English -speaking countries. But it's not always possible. So I offer you to have an imaginary trip to Great Britain today.
During our trip we shall read an interesting text about London, listen to some useful information about the city and do different exercises.
Т.: Before visiting any foreign country we read books about it or look for some interesting information. We read and learn about Great Britain. So let's see what we know about this country and its capital.
1. Speaking about Great Britain - geographical map, capitals of the countries.
( slides on the screen)
The official name - The UK of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Its population is over 57 million. Great Britain includes 3 parts: England,its capital is London, its national symbol is rose. England is the largest and the richest part country of Great Britain.Scotland is a country in the north of GB, its capital - Edinburgh, and the symbol is the thistle. Wales is the country in the west of GB and its capital is Cardiff and the symbol is daffodil. Northern Ireland is situated in in the north –east of the island and the capital is Belfast. 


Here is the Flag of the United Kingdom. The flag is known as the Union Jack. It is made of 3 crosses. The upright Red cross is the cross of St. George, the patron saint of England. The white diagonal cross is the cross of St. Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland. The red diagonal cross is the cross of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.


About London. 
London is the capital of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is its political and cultural centre. London is situated on the river Thames. There are 27 bridges over the Thames and 8 tunnels under the river.
London is the biggest city in Britain. More than 7 million people live and work there. It is one of the most important cities in the world. It is a centre for business and for tourism. 
Many people think that London is grey. But in fact red is London's favourite colour. Taxi, London underground and red buses will take you in every part of the city. 

TOWER CLOCK was named as“BIG BEN” until October,2012. 
It was renamed Elizabeth Tower to mark the queen's 60th year on the British throne.

2. Reading. Information about Wales.
Wales is a small country. Its population is nearly 3 million. Its language is English. In the North and West of Wales many people speak Welsh as their first language and about 20 per cent of the school are Welsh. The Welsh have their own language, their own traditions and their own culture.
