Урок английского языка по теме "Условные предложения второго типа".

Урок английского языка по теме «Условные предложения второго типа»

Grade 10

The Theme: “If I Were…”

Goals: - to learn Second Condition: by the end of the lesson the students should

be able to speak about unreal situations in the present and future;

  • to develop speaking, listening and thinking skills; imagination;

  • to bring up the ability to work independently and in small groups.

Aids: active board, handouts

Motto: “Practice is the best of all instructions”



I.Orgmoment. Greetings.

II. Warming – up activity 1. Discuss the proverb.

Slide 1. “ There is nothing impossible for a willing heart”

( I hope there will be nothing impossible for you to learn and remember at the lesson today)

Slide 2. III. Warming – up activity 2. Match the two parts of the proverbs and review First Condition.

1. If the cap fits, a. we shall catch larks.

2. If you run after two horses, b. you will get up with fleas.

3. If you lie down with dogs, c. Mahomet will go to the mountain.

4. If the sky falls, d. you will catch none.

5. If mountain doesn’t come to e. wear it.

Compare:

  1. If the weather is fine, I will go for a walk.

  2. If the weather were fine, I would go for a walk.

If + Past simple, would + infinitive

USE THIS FORMULA FOR:

  • describing unreal imaginary situation in the present and future;

  • giving advice.

NOTICE:

The verb “to be” has a special meaning in the if- clause, use WERE for all persons.

1. A. I don’t know Chinese.

If I knew Chinese, I would go to China.

If I knew Chinese, I would speak it every day.

B. My family doesn’t have a car.

If my family had a car, I would learn to drive.

If my family had a car, I wouldn’t have to walk so much.

2. A. If I were you, I wouldn’t go there.

B. If I were in your shoes, I would learn English better.

  4. Perhaps I’ll get a better job. I’ll earn more.

  5. Jack has no chance of passing the exam because he never studies.

  1. Pair work: custom and common sense tell us what to do in some situations. Make up a short dialogue and practice it with your partner.

  1. What would you do if a stranger gave you an expensive gift?

  2. If a stranger gave me an expensive gift, I would refuse to take it.

  • You received a letter addressed to somebody else.

  • You lost the heel of your shoe on the way to school.

  • Your best friend refused to talk to you anymore.

  • You found one hundred dollars on the street.

  • You heard somebody shouting for help.

  • Someone you have never seen before said “ I love you “.

  • You were offered to study in the USA for three years.

  • You lost your English textbook.

Choose one of the situations. Write a short paragraph that includes answers to the questions. You have 5 minutes. Then all of you will sit down on this chair in front of the class and read your paragraph aloud.

  1. Imagine you are a famous person. If you were that famous person, where would you live? What would your daily life be like? What would you do that you can’t do now?

  2. Choose a city or a country. If you lived in that place, how would your daily life be different from what it is right now? What could you do that you can’t do now.

  3. Think about something that you don’t have. If you had that thing, what would you do with it? How would your life be different if you had it?

Slide 12. VIII. Production. Listening comprehension and giving advice.

Start with: If I were you… or If I were in your shoes…

  1. I’ve just to a new school and my classmates started playing jokes on me. What shall I do/

  2. I’d love to have a kitten

  3. I’ve put on weight again!!!

  4. I’ve just won 1 million dollars in a lottery. I’m happy, but I don’t know what to do with this huge sum of money.

  5. I’ve just been kicked out of school. I haven’t told my parents yet. I’m afraid.

  6. I fell down on my way to school and my clothes are covered with mud. I don’t have time to go home and change my clothes.

  7. My boyfriend is so jealous! He won’t let me dance, speak or even look at the other boys.
