Greeting.

Warm up discussion (W)

T displays a video on the smart board. She holds a whole-class discussion on the following questions and elicits some relevant adjectives:

  • Do you consider yourself a creative person? Why?

  • What is something creative that you have done?

  • Is creativity a good thing? Why or why not?

  • What are some ways that a person can be creative?


Setting the lesson objectives


Pre-listening

Read the description of My Fantasy Invention on the web page on the board. How does the show work?

Read the list of recent entries on the web page and guess what each invention might be.

Assessment Criteria Listening skill

- SS listen for the specific information;

-SS choose the right answer and justify their answers


While listening

Task 1.Ask them to listen to five people presenting their fantasy inventions and answer the following questions:

1.Which inventions from the list in exercise 1are they talking about?

2.What, roughly, would each invention be like? How would it work?

Task 2.Why does each speaker think their invention would be useful and to whom?

Answer the question as a class playing the recording again if necessary.

Post –listening

Ask them to work in pairs and discuss the questions below: (PW)

  1. Which speakers do you think are most / least persuasive? Why?

  2. What questions would you ask about each invention if you were on the panel?

  3. Which would you vote for? Why?

While they are doing monitor and help where necessary, encouraging them.

Pre -reading

Start the lesson by showing the pictures on the board and ask what do they think about the statement:

Albert Einstein said:

"Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value“

Discuss as a whole class.

While –reading Jigsaw

Assessment Criteria Reading skill:

  • SS understand specific information in the text;

  • SS can answer the questions correctly.

Divide the class into three groups and give instructions:

Three different articles about :

1.Artificial Intelligence

2.Ways of being successful

3.Bill Gates

1.Group A/B/C students read their article and check understanding, discuss in their groups.

2.Students then group up with someone from the other group and tell them about their article and listen to each other .

Differentiation by support : To help students remember their article or some numbers less motivated students may take notes. Alternatively, the students can keep the article with them to refer to.

Post –reading

Teacher shows some questions on the board and each student have to write the answers into their copy-books.

SS swap up their copy-books and check each other.
