She holds a whole-class discussion on the following questions and elicits some relevant adjectives: Do you consider yourself a creative person? Why? What is something creative that you have done? Is creativity a good thing? Why or why not? What are some ways that a person can be creative? Setting the lesson objectives Pre-listening Read the description of My Fantasy Invention on the web page on the board. How does the show work? Read the list of recent entries on the web page and guess what each invention might be. Assessment Criteria Listening skill - SS listen for the specific information; -SS choose the right answer and justify their answers While listening Task 1.Ask them to listen to five people presenting their fantasy inventions and answer the following questions: 1.Which inventions from the list in exercise 1are they talking about? 2.What, roughly, would each invention be like? How would it work? Task 2.Why does each speaker think their invention would be useful and to whom? Answer the question as a class playing the recording again if necessary. Post –listening Ask them to work in pairs and discuss the questions below: (PW) Which speakers do you think are most / least persuasive? Why? What questions would you ask about each invention if you were on the panel? Which would you vote for? Why? While they are doing monitor and help where necessary, encouraging them.
