II. The main part
T. Today we are going to speak about travelling and visiting cities and their places of interests. We’ll repeat the words, use the active vocabulary in dialogues and monologue speech, we’ll train the skills of listening, reading and get the information from the texts, revise grammar material and use speech patterns in your speech.I invite you to make a short trip as there is so much to see in the world and I believe you’ll get new impressions.

If you want to go somewhere and it is difficult for you to choose the place and the transport you can go to the travel agency. The travel agent will help you.
Imagine that you are at the travel agency make up the dialogue.
Customer: Good morning. I’d like to go to London, please.
Travel Agent: OK. When would you like to go?
Customer: At the weekend, on Saturday.
Travel Agent: What time do you want to leave?
Customer: At about ten o’clock. What times are the trains?
Travel Agent:There’s one at half past ten. And there’s one at ten thirty.
Customer: Right. And what about the flights?
Travel Agent: There are two flights. There’s one at quarter to nine and one at quarter to twelve
Customer: Mmm, OK. And how much are the tickets?
Travel Agent: A single is seventy five pounds and a return is ninety pounds.
Customer: Can you give me a return ticket for the quarter to nine flight, please.

I went on a sightseeing tour around London on a double – decker bus when I was in England. It was great. We started at the Tower of London and we went across Southwark Bridge. We went along SouthwarkStreet , past Tate Modern. That is an art gallery.
Then we went along Stamford Street, past Waterloo Bridge and stopped at the London Eye. That is a Big Wheel and we went on it. You could see all of London from the top. Then we went across Westminster Bridge. I could see Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. We went along Whitehall, the Strand, Aldwych and Fleet Street and past St. Paul’s Cathedral. Then we went along Cannon Street and we finished the tour at the Tower of London again.

Centuries of Learning, A World of Art, Over a Hundred Years of History, The rock of Kings and Queens.
It took eight years to build Tower Bridge in London. It was finished in 1894. Tower Bridge was built because lots of people lived in the East End of London and there was no bridge in the east of the city at that time for them to use. Today, visitors to London can learn all about the history of the bridge at the Tower Bridge Exhibition.
The Museum of Modern Art opened in 1929. It has a collection of over 150,000 works of art. These include paintings, photographs and drawings. The museum also has a very big collection of books and films. The museum has some very famous paintings by Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso and Claude Monet.
University of London is in the north of London. It is one of the oldest universities in the world. The university was founded in 1088! The famous people studied there.
Edinburgh is in the south of Scotland. The city’s famous castle sits on an extinct volcano called Castle Rock. Archeologists believe that people were living on the rock as long as 900 BC. In the Middle Ages, Edinburgh Castle was home to the Scottish kings and queens. The castle has been an army base for hundreds of years and is a very popular attraction for visitors to Scotland’s capital city.
