Planned timings | Planned activities | Resources
Beginning 5 min (W) | Greet the learners and ask them how they are doing. Ask sts what facts they know about the Earth. Give them some time to brainstorm ideas. Sts may divide into pairs or work in small groups of three. Write down the sts’ ideas on the board. Tell them that today we are going to learn a little more about our planet and treasure it has got.
| Board, markers | ||||||
Middle 15 min (I/P)
| Reading Practice Tell sts they are going to read a text about the Earth and one of its treasure. Explain the sts that they will come across new vocabulary but you won’t tell them what they mean. First, they have to complete reading comprehension tasks. Read the text as a whole class. Drill pronunciation of new vocabulary. Ask sts to answer the questions even if they have confusing and unfamiliar words. Differentiation. Circulate the classroom and provide corrective feedback. Or form mixed-ability pairs. Check the task as a class. | Text

10 min (W) | Depending on the sts’ results explain them that sometimes it is not necessary to know all the words in a text to complete a task. Introduce new vocab with PPT slides. Pass out vocab notes. Give sts some time to read through the notes and glue them into their vocabs. | PPT Vocab notes
7 min (P/I) | Speaking Practice Ask sts to brainstorm what other Planet’s Treasure they know. Write their ideas on the board. With a partner, ask the sts to brainstorm adjectives (warm, beautiful, orange, important, dangerous, expensive etc.) Then tell the sts they need to use these adjectives with the nouns related to the planet’s treasure. Sample: beautiful mountains, blue sky, fast rivers, deep oceans, mysterious caves, wild animals, coniferous forests, dangerous jungles, hot deserts etc. | https://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/en/songs/the-leaves-the-trees
3 min. (I/G) | Homework & Reflection 1. Show slide 13. Have students write and complete the ‘what I’ve learned’ sentence with a new word that they learned. The point of the exercise is to reflect on learning, so every kid can pick a different word, or words for higher achievers. 2. Tell students to study their words! | PPT slide 13 Student Copybooks

Differentiation – how do you plan to give more support? How do you plan to challenge the more able learners? | Assessment – how are you planning to check learners’ learning? | Health and safety check
More able learners can be encouraged to write more for what words they learned that day at the end of the lesson. More able learners may be paired with students needing extra help for the TPS at the beginning of the lesson. | The teacher will be able to assess how well the students have acquired the new words through the Olympic Grid. The teacher will know how well the students are doing at writing the new words and sentences by circulating the room often and checking written work. | Lessons will be delivered in accordance with health and safety standards.
