The leader of the 21^st century

Тема: «Great Britain»

Цель: Развивать познавательные интересы учащихся.

Задачи: 1. Обобщить лингвострановедческий материал по теме «Great Britain» 2.Углубить и расширить знания по теме.

3. Совершенствовать умения и навыки практического владения английским языком по данной теме по видам речевой деятельности: говорению, чтению письму.

4. Повысить интерес к изучению английского языка

5. Развивать активность учащихся.

6. Воспитывать уважительное отношение друг к другу.

7. Учить работать в команде.

Учебные пособия: символы изучаемого языка, флаг, карта Соединенного Королевства, слайды - картинки с достопримечательностями Лондона, листы и карточки с заданиями о Лондоне.

Ход мероприятия:

1. Организационный момент:

Teacher: You are welcome! Good morning, our students, teachers and dear guests! We are glad to see you at our intellectual game «The leader of the 21^st century»

The theme of our game is «Great Britain». Let me introduce the participants.

I want you to greet all of them with your applause! Thank you, and now I want you to know more about our game, which consists of several tasks. For example: answer the questions about Great Britain. If your answer is correct the team will get one point. If your answer is wrong the second team will be allowed to give the answer. After listening to the question the members of the team can consult with each other for 30 seconds.

T: But 1^st of all we need jury. Of course, I will suggest our English teachers. Take your seats, please. Now let’s begin! Good luck for everybody!

The 1st task is «Questions about Great Britain» If your answer is correct you will get one point. If your answer is wrong the 2^nd student will be allowed to give the answer.

(Four parts. The City, the East End, the West End and Westminster)

13. What is a popular name of the London Underground? (Tube)

14. What is the name of a lake in Scotland in which a mysterious monster lives?

«Sights of London» Teacher: Great Britain is a big country, which has a lot of different places of interest. It is famous for its monuments, well- known buildings and other sights. Your task is to name the sights of the UK.

Pupils’ answers:

Buckingham Palace, London residence of the British sovereign, takes its name from the house built early in the 18^th century for the dukes of Backingham. Queen Victoria was the first sovereign to live there. The Royal standard is flown and the ceremony of changing of the guard takes place daily when the sovereign is in residence.

The Houses of Parliament is a beautiful building with two towers and a very big clock called Big Ben.

Westminster Abbey is a very beautiful church built over 900 years ago. The tombs of many great statesmen, scientists and writers are in the Abbey.

The city’s greatest monument, St.Paul’s Cathedral was built by Sir Christopher Wren between 1675 and 1710 to replace the old Cathedral that was largely destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666.Christopher Wren is buried there. Among the many memorials to famous men within the Cathedral are the tombs of Wellington, victor of Waterloo, and Nelson, hero of Trafalgar.

Учащимся нужно давать ответы на поставленные вопросы по теме «Великобритания» на скорость. Предварительно выбрав сумму баллов, которые они могут заработать. Баллы распределены по различному уровню сложности. Вопрос за 10 баллов был самый легкий, за 20 баллов сложнее и так далее до 50 баллов. Вопрос за 50 был самым сложным, но самым выгодным. Тем самым проверяется азарт учащихся, умение просчитывать ситуацию, ориентироваться по ходу игры в сложной для них ситуации. Категории следующие:
